Aubrey felt a pang of guilt, but resentment still flared. She snapped, You told him the truth that we never actually slept together just to clear your own name. You completely sold me out!

*1Ethan Sterling found himself utterly speechless.

Aubrey ignored him, turning and running into her room. Ethan followed, but she slammed the door shut and locked it just as he reached it.

Enraged, Ethan stomped his foot outside the door.

Aubrey sighed in relief, setting down the things she was carrying, and hurried into the bathroom.

Damor turned on the faucet, and the water gushed out, running freely.

He shut off the faucet, looking at Aubrey by the doorway. It’s perfectly normal.

Aubrey’s gaze flickered.

Nothing’s broken. No need to fix it.Damon headed for the door, ready to leave.

Aubrey hastily grabbed his arm. It’sHer eyes darted around, finally landing on the showerhead. It’sthe showerhead. It’s not working, it’s clogged.

Damori glanced back, then turned around, picking up the handheld showerhead and pointing it at the floor before pulling the lever down.

Instantly, a powerful stream of water shot onto the floor.

He raised a subtle brow, his deep black eyes holding a hint of confusion as he silently watched Aubrey, his gaze seeming to say: It’s not broken, you saw

that.

Aubrey, her guilt flaring, avoided his gaze and slowly edged closer. She discreetly lifted a hand, then flipped the shower diverter.

Her small, sneaky movement didn’t escape Damon’s peripheral vision.

Before Damon could even react, the handheld shower he was holding suddenly stopped, and the main showerhead above burst on with a vengeance. Water, like a sudden downpour, icy cold, cascaded directly onto his head.

He jolted with the cold, too late to dodge, and was instantly drenched from head to toe.

Damon quickly stumbled back two steps, flipped the diverter off, and stared at Aubrey, utterly bewildered.

Aubrey felt a sharp pang of guilt, but keeping him here like this was infinitely better than him spending another second with Ethan, that devious jerk.

Damon slotted the handheld shower back into its cradle.

Chilled by the cold water, his hair and body drenched, not a trace of anger flickered through him.

He knew Aubrey had done it on purpose.

As for why, he still wasn’t sure.

He peeled off his jacket, shaking the water from it. His palm raked through his soaked short hair, flicking off water droplets. The cold water still trickled down his neck, seeping beneath his nowdamp clothes and chilling him.

Your showerhead seems fine,Damon said, clutching his jacket as he started to walk out.Doesn’t need fixing. I’ll head back to my room first, grab a hot shower, and change.

Aubrey spun around, her hand clamping onto Damon’s arm.

Damon paused, startled. His deep gaze, laced with a hint of confusion, settled on her small, anxious face. Then his eyes slowly dropped, landing on the pale, delicate hands gripping his arm.

In all their time living together, this was the first time Aubrey had ever actively sought his help. And it was clearly nothing but a pretense.

It was also the first time she had ever initiated physical contact with him.

What is it?His voice was unusually soft, almost tender.

Aubrey hesitated, a knot of nerves tightening in her chest.Youyou can just shower in my

bathroom.

Damon watched her, an unreadable halfsmile playing on his lips, a flicker of confusion deepening in his eyes. Aubrey also found the request abrupt and strange, immediately making her mind race with inappropriate thoughts.

For adults, it was almost an unspoken invitation.

It was akin to Damon’s bed being right next door, yet she was practically telling him, Sleep here.

There wasn’t much difference between a bed and a bathroom; the implications were the same.

But she couldn’t worry about that now.

Ethan wanted to turn Damon gay, and she absolutely wouldn’t allow it. For them, in their social sphere, samesex relationships were barely tolerated, often met with outright discrimination.

Her grandfather and parentsgeneration would find it utterly unacceptable.
