Doomsday Revenge: Payback Time (Josie) novel Chapter 74

Chapter 74

For Damon’s bowl, she deliberately added chopped green onions and cilantro.

By the time the two bowls of noodle soup with sliced meat and egg were ready.

She knocked on Damon’s door.

Instantly, the door opened.

Damon, in light gray loungewear, leaned groggily against the doorframe, a languid touch of morning grumpiness in his voice. What is it?

Aubrey looked at him, puzzled.Didn’t you say last night you wanted me to make you noodles for breakfast?

Damon’s sleepiness vanished instantly, his eyes lighting up. His voice, still hoarse, held a touch of disbelief.Aubrey, you actually made me noodles?

Aubrey nodded earnestly.

A hint of a smile touched Damon’s lips, his tone gentle.Dried noodles or instant ramen?

Is he looking down on me? Aubrey fumed silently.

She deliberately patted the flour off her apron, then glared up at him, her back teeth practically grinding together.

Damon stepped out of the room.

Aubrey placed both hands on his abdomen, stopping him.Brush your teeth and wash your face before you come out to eat.

It’ll get mushy if we wait,he countered. I’ll wash up

after.

No.

Fine, I’ll do it your way,Damon said, immediately turning and heading into the bathroom to wash up.

Aubrey untied her apron and hung it back in the kitchen. She swept her gaze over the chaotic, flourdusted battlefield of a kitchen, and a deep weariness

settled in her bones.

Takeout was so much more convenient, she thought, and there was no mess to clean up.

She’d had enough. Tossing her apron aside, she walked out and settled at the dining table, waiting for Damon to appear.

She picked up her phone to check the time, then set it back down.

Thankfully, they’d still make it to work on time after breakfast.

Damon finished getting ready quickly. He walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down, a small smile touching his lips as he stared at the noodles in the

bowl.

The fried egg was overly browned, the meat slices were thick, the noodles were hefty, and the bok choy looked limp and yellowish from overcooking. The only truly vibrant things in the bowl were the bright green scallions and cilantro.

The presentation wasn’t exactly fivestar, but for a complete novice, it was actually pretty impressive.

Aubrey watched him expectantly. When he didn’t immediately pick up his fork, she asked, a thread of nervousness in her voice, Don’t you want to eat

it?

Damon looked up at her, a hint of bitterness in his voice.Aubrey, back when we were dating, I practically begged you to make me breakfast, and refused every time. It was always takeout or boiled eggs. On a good day, I might get a few steamed instant buns.

you

Shame burned in Aubrey’s cheeks.

Damon picked up his fork, shaking his head with a wry smile. A simple joke from a regular friend, and you actually cooked noodles, even kneaded the dough from scratch. I never got this kind of treatment when I was your boyfriend.”

Aubrey’s eyes widened.Youyou were just kidding last night?

Damon nodded.Yeah.

Aubrey took a sharp breath, gripping her fork tightly. She forced the words out, her voice tight with suppressed anger. Your tone last night, your attitudeit didn’t sound like a joke at all.

Damon’s lips curved into a soft smile. And you’re not exactly the type to get up early and cook breakfast for a casual friend, are you?

Aubrey let out a long, slow breath, her eyes narrowing as she glared at him, irritation radiating off her.

Damon picked up his fork, scooped a thick tangle of noodles, and took a generous bite.

The next second, a slight frown creased his forehead.

Aubrey sensed his notoriously picky palate was about to kick in. Pointing at his bowl, she commanded, Damon, no matter how bad it

finish it.
