“Holy shit, you’re trying to give me a heart attack! Boss, you’re the real deal.” Winnie gave Josie a massive thumbs–up.

“If you’re scared of being caught in the crossfire, leave now while you still can,” Josie told her. “I’m officially at war with the Base and the military. They aren’t going to let this slide.”

Winnie shook her head. “No way. I’m sticking with you. Anyone who can go toe–to–toe with the military and the Base isn’t just some Norm. Out there, I’d never even get the chance to look the people in charge in the eye. But here I am, standing right in front of you.”

Josie smirked. “Look at you, such a sweet–talker.”

Damn straight!” Winnie said, looking smug. “Keeping the boss happy pays off big time. Out there, I could talk until I’m blue in the face and nobody would give a damn. As long as you don’t kick me out, I’m sticking to you like glue.”

Josie didn’t say anything else.

She wondered if Zane and his crew had made it out yet.

With their skills, escaping shouldn’t have been a problem.

Sure, Zane had put her in a tight spot and forced her hand.

But then she thought about her Space–packed to the brim with weapons, including the nukes and warheads she’d been so worried about. It was worth it. Totally worth it.

Still, she’d taken a hit.

The camp she’d picked out was useless now. She couldn’t stay there.

She needed to get even.

She wasn’t about to let them screw her over for nothing.

She might not know everything about the Base, but she knew exactly where their food warehouse was.

After all, she’d made that run a hundred times.

f the Base wanted to act like total assholes, they could pay the price for it!

Why not hit them now, before they even finished getting the place set up?

No use waiting. She was doing it.

Josie turned to Winnie. I’m heading out again. I’ll be gone for a few days.”

Got it. I’ll get the meal prep ready for you, Boss.” Winnie–the “Personal Chef–knew the drill by now.

Josie wasn’t the type to stay in one place for long. But even on the road, she refused to eat like a peasant.

Winnie spent the next two days prepping. She put together twenty massive meal boxes for Josie.

Each one was packed: a pound of rice, three different meats, a side of greens, and a container of soup.

She tossed in a handful of energy bars for good measure.

It was more than enough to keep Josie fueled.

Josie swept the meals into her storage space, kicked her bike to life, and vanished in a cloud of dust before Winnie could even blink

With Josie gone, Winnie stayed low. She kept her activity to a minimum, barely leaving the house.

Sure, the satellites were mostly dead, but you could never be too careful.

Winnie had sworn she wouldn’t be the one to screw things up for Josie. She wasn’t going to be a liability
