Chapter 82

Chapter 82

Josie moved fast. One by one, the massive piles of grain vanished into her spatial storage.

Before her upgrade, clearing out a haul this big would have taken her hours.

But after helping Zane secure all those weapons, her Spatial Superpower had evolved. She’d unlocked a massive new area, and het intake speed was now off the charts.

Three billion tons of grain. Gone in less than thirty minutes.

That was enough.

Time to wrap this up.

Josie didn’t give the empty warehouse a second look. She turned and walked away.

She wiped her prints, relocked the heavy doors, and slipped back into the gala.

Back in the server uniform, she moved smoothly through the crowd. She leaned over Tate with a fresh drink and slid the keys back. into his pocket.

Tate was wasted. He looked up with glassy eyes and suddenly grabbed Josie’s wrist. Junestick with me. I’ll make sure you’re taken

care of.

He’d mistaken her for June.

It made sense. They shared a father; the family resemblance was there if you looked close enough.

You’re tired,Josie whispered. Just sleep for a bit.

As she spoke, she reached out and pressed her thumb firmly against his carotid artery.

Tate’s head lolled back. He was out cold in seconds.

Josie turned and walked away without a word.

She shed the disguise as she moved through the back halls.

By the time she stepped into the shadows of the courtyard, she was back in her own gear.

Meanwhile, June had finished changing into a fresh outfit. She was heading back to the floor, ready to strike while the iron was hot and get those Entry permits out of Tate’s hands for her family.

She snuggled up against Tate, acting all sweet and playful. I’m not even buzzed yet, and you’re already out? Don’t forget about those Entry permits you promised me!

Tate didn’t move. No response.

June realized something was off. She sat bolt upright and shook him hard. Tate? Hey! Wake up!

The shaking jolted Tate awake. He snapped his eyes open and immediately grabbed June’s wrist in a death grip. What the hell did you do to me?

June froze, completely blindsided.

She hadn’t done a damn thing!

It was you,Tate growled. You hit some pressure point on my neck and I blacked out!

I didn’t!June stammered, her mind racing. She had no way to prove her innocence.

Right then, a man came sprinting in, practically tripping over his own feet. He started yelling the second he hit the door. Mr. Jansen! It’s bad! More than half the food in the warehouseit’s gone!

The alcohol deated from Tate’s head instantly. He was stonecold sober.

What did you say? Get out of my way! Tate shoved June aside and scrambled out the door, stumbling as he tan

June hesitated for a second, then chased after him.

When they got there, the warehouse door and the locks were perfectly fine. Not a single scratch.

Tare still had the only key on him.
