Chapter 84
Clam Coins By Check
Zane and his crew spent the whole time dodging and weaving through the chaos, eventually desperate enough to duck into the
Industrial District.
The district was a graveyard of factories.
Electronics plants, machine shops, food processing centers–you name it. Hundreds of them, packed tight.
Before the collapse, this place was a magnet for blue–collar workers.
There had to have been millions of people squeezed into this sector.
Now? It was a damn death trap. Ground Zero for the Undead.
Every single plant was crawling with them. Hordes just wandering the floors, looking for something to rip apart.
In a place like this, you’d have to be delusional to look for survivors.
We were over two weeks into the apocalypse. Even if someone managed to find a hiding spot, the lack of food and water would’ve broken them by now.
If the Undead didn’t get you, starvation or thirst did.
So, the moment Zane and his crew hit the industrial zone, they set off the entire swarm.
Countless undead started reaching out, their hands clawing at the air.
They looked like a pack of starving wolves eyeing a fresh lamb.
About a third of Zane’s squad were Supers.
To the undead, the flesh and blood of a Super was like a drug–they couldn’t get enough of it.
It didn’t take long for a group of Tier–ls to lock onto them.
That’s right.
While Tier–ls were still rare out in the city, this place was already crawling with them.
“Watch out!” Zane yanked a teammate back just as a Palm Bolt shot from his hand, slamming into a high–pressure jet of water.
“Thanks, Cap!” the guy gasped, his face turning paper–white. “What was that?”
“A Tier–1 Aquatic!” Zane scanned the perimeter, his grip tightening. “We have to get through this zone fast. I’ve got a bad feeling these things have already evolved. We’re probably looking at a whole pack of Tier–ls. Most of us are still at Basic Tier; we’re outmatched.”
“Plus, most of the group are still Norms. We can’t afford to get pinned down!”
“Cap, they’re here!” someone shouted.
Everyone followed his gaze. A swarm of fast–moving Undead was charging straight for them.
Tier–1 Undead. Their bodies were stiff, their faces pale with jagged fangs, but they moved with terrifying speed.
They were spitting fire, shooting jets of water, or hurling heavy rocks like living catapults.
It looked like the Tier–1 Undead had powers that matched the human Tier–1 Superpowers perfectly.
“Captain, what’s the play?” The others turned to Zane, panic in their
eyes.
“Waste the ammo! Light ‘em up!” Zane barked. The hair on the back of his neck stood on end.
This was it. They were going to have to fight like hell.

If they didn’t go all out right now, they’d all be dead meat.
The squad fell back on their old drills, spreading out their formation and letting the lead fly. The sound of gunfire filled the air as they sprayed the Tier–1 swarm.
But they’d forgotten one thing.
