Chapter 98
June had heard that a top–tier Super had been spotted in an undead nest over in the industrial zone.
The guy was a total loner.
A young Terrestrial Super with some serious raw power.
The second June heard about him, she was hooked.
Young. Male. Solo. Strong.
A mental profile clicked into place instantly.
une figured he had to be an introvert–the kind of guy who didn’t know how to talk to people.
Before the world went to hell, guys like him were always nobodies. They never stood out in school or at work. They were just
nvisible.
With her looks and her game, playing a guy like that was easy mode. It wouldn’t even be a fair fight.
une was beyond confident. She knew that if she just reached out and tossed him an invite, he’d jump at the chance to join Team Zenith. And once he was in, it was only a matter of time before he became another one of the loyal lapdogs in her collection.
So, she grabbed a crew of seven or eight and headed straight for the undead nest.
They came packed with ammo, ready to let the lead fly and shred a path right through the rot.
On the other side of the block, Josie and Zane were closing in with twenty people of their own.
osie wasn’t there for anyone in particular. She just wanted to grind–to kill undead and push her body and abilities to the limit.
but fate had other plans. Both groups ended up on the exact same street.
osie and Zane locked eyes, both surprised to see the other had already hit Tier–2. Then it clicked. It made sense.
They shared a quick, knowing grin, then went back–to–back. The hunt was on.
osie flicked her wrist, and a swarm of throwing knives blurred into the crowd, taking heads clean off.
Lane raised his hand and let the lightning rip. A massive arc slammed into the street, lighting everything up with a roar.
uddenly, something shiny on the ground caught Zane’s eye. He grabbed it and frowned. “What the hell is this?”
Oh? Undead Cores are dropping already?” Josie glanced over, her tone casual. “Technically, those shouldn’t show up until after the ig rain. We’re way ahead of schedule.”
Cane gave her a long, hard look.
He was sure of it now. Josie was keeping secrets.
f Josie wasn’t talking, Zane wasn’t asking.
That was basic common sense.
Pushing for answers was the fastest way to kill a friendship before it even started.
Zane wasn’t an idiot. You don’t mess with a neighbor this powerful, especially when they’re packing their entire arsenal. Crossing
someone like that would be a death wish.
Zane played it cool, acting like he hadn’t noticed anything off. “So,” he asked, “what are these Cores actually good for?”
They’re useful, yeah.” Josie took the crystal and flipped it between her fingers. “But this one is small and clear. There’s almost no power in it.”
The real prizes are Tier–1 Power Cores. They’re color–coded by ability. Pyro is red, Metallic is yellow, Terrestrial is brown, Aquatic
