He heard footsteps at the gate and instantly stopped, glancing up. Emmy strode in, arms loaded with bags. The moment she stepped into the courtyard and spotted Dominic, her whole face lit up with a beaming smile. She set everything down and called out, bright and clear, “Master, I’m back!”
For a second, Dominic felt almost dizzy. The girl in front of him was still Emmy. Lively, beautiful, and somehow even more radiant than she’d been a year ago. She used to have a touch of innocence in her eyes, a hint of youth she couldn’t quite shake. Now, with her sharp short haircut, she looked bold and totally in control. There was something different in her gaze too. It wasn’t just clear anymore. It was steady, calm, and unbreakable, like she’d been through storms and come out stronger. She had a presence that was impossible to ignore. Like a diamond that had finally been polished to its brightest shine.
Dominic felt his eyes sting, but he covered it up with a grumpy scowl. His mustache practically bristled as he turned away, refusing to look at her.
“So, you actually remembered to come back?” he grumbled. “I thought you’d completely forgotten your old master! Not even a single call all this time. How did I end up with such an ungrateful apprentice?”
He flung his sleeve with a huff and started stomping back toward the house.
Emmy hurried after him, linking her arm through his and using her softest, most pleading voice. “Master, I know I was wrong. I honestly do. Please don’t be mad, okay? The second I landed back home, I came straight here to see you. Look, I even brought your favorite tea and some pastries from that old bakery you love…”
Dominic walked on, pretending to be annoyed, but the corners of his mouth were already twitching up. He couldn’t help it. The truth was, Teresa had already stopped by Pepper Estate and told him everything. Emmy’s amnesia, all of it. He knew Emmy didn’t actually remember becoming his apprentice. The way she called him “Master” and acted so close was probably just instinct, or maybe Teresa’s reminder. Still, seeing her show up with gifts right after getting back, hearing her call out to him like nothing had changed… It hit him right in his stubborn old heart.
Of course, Dominic had spent his whole life being proud. There was no way he’d get sentimental in front of her. He wasn’t about to admit how much he’d worried. All he could do was let out another gruff huff, flop into his favorite chair, and take a long sip of tea.
Then his tone turned serious. “But there’s something you need to deal with right now. You’ve heard about that Smart Health AI prosthesis that just hit the market, haven’t you?”
Emmy’s eyes flickered. “Yeah. Right now, it’s Sync’s biggest competitor.”
Dominic gave a sharp snort. “Competitor? They’re not here to compete. They’re here to wipe out Sync.”

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
