James arched an eyebrow, waiting for her to go on.

Emmy took a steadying breath.

"In the Janus Sphere Technologies suite, the reason I put that blanket between us..."

"It wasn't because I didn't trust you or thought you'd try something."

She bit her lower lip, her voice barely more than a whisper.

"It was because... I was afraid I wouldn't be able to stop myself."

"I was scared you'd get the wrong idea about me."

James's eyes grew darker, his voice rough. "What kind of wrong idea?"

Emmy pressed her lips together, struggling to get the words out. She looked at him, searching for courage, then finally said it.

"That you'd think I'm... way too into you. Or that I was ever reckless with Dean, too..."

As soon as she mentioned Dean, James's brow tightened.

Emmy saw the change in his expression and her heart skipped. She rushed to explain,
