Emmy finished up the paperwork and skimmed over her speech, making a few tweaks here and there. Once she was done with the last sentence, she glanced at her watch. Her brows pulled together almost immediately. Joshua had been gone for more than thirty minutes. Pulling a single file on share ownership shouldn’t take him this long, especially with his authority. Unless he was stalling on purpose.
She wasn’t about to waste any more time waiting. Emmy grabbed her folder and speech, then headed straight for the door.
The hallway outside was already lively. Office doors were wide open, and a bunch of older shareholders in sharp suits were making their way toward the elevators. Emmy paused for a second, her gaze drifting through the crowd until it landed on the two people leading the pack. They were clearly the center of attention.
One was Mr. Nelson Brian, looking sharp in a deep red Tang jacket, his face practically glowing. Right beside him was a middle-aged woman in a deep purple, embroidered dress. Her curls were perfectly styled, her chin tilted high, and her eyes were cold and cutting. That had to be the legendary Martha.
Their presence was impossible to ignore. The two of them led the way like a pair of wolves, everyone else around them smiling and trying to keep up. They didn’t even notice Emmy as they stepped into the elevator.
Emmy stayed where she was, her face unreadable, not in any rush to follow. A few minor shareholders strolled up from behind, laughing and chatting, but the second they saw her, their smiles shifted, turning sly and loaded with meaning. One of them gave her a brief nod, barely polite. As soon as they passed her and got into the elevator, their whispers floated back to Emmy.
“Did you see her? That’s the ‘famous’ Mrs. Nelson.”
“Please. Mrs. Nelson? She was missing for a whole year. Who knows what she was up to? And she still has the nerve to show up here.”
“If she didn’t have those key projects in her hands, the Nelson family would’ve kicked her out ages ago with that reputation.”
“Too bad Mr. Nelson’s completely lost it over her. He’s dragging the whole company down for her.”
Penny was faster. In a split second, she stepped in front of Emmy. There was a heavy thud as Penny caught the woman’s wrist in a vice-like grip, making the woman’s expression twist with pain.
The woman in black glared and barked, “Penny, you dare stand in my way?”
Penny stayed cool, her grip unyielding as she shoved the woman back. “Sorry. I’m Ms. Lincoln’s personal bodyguard now. My only job is to keep her safe. No one touches her.”
Her voice was icy and steady. Then she turned her head, her voice dropping as she spoke to Emmy, “Ms. Lincoln, this is Mr. Nelson’s mother, Shelly.”

What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
