Shelly was left speechless, her eyes fixed on Emmy. Emmy wasn’t wrong, and they both knew it. In a power game like this, everyone was risking their necks. Even Shelly herself had a tiny pistol hidden away in a secret pocket in her bag. But getting a legal gun in this country was nearly impossible. Unless you had serious military connections, you could forget about it. She had tried everything, pulling every string she could, and still came up empty. But somehow, Emmy, a woman with no background at all, managed to get one. There was only one reason for that: James. It had to be him. He must have used his military ties to get Emmy her permit.
Jealousy crept through Shelly like poison. Her own son would do anything for this woman.
She took a steadying breath, trying to keep her anger in check, then narrowed her eyes and let out a cold laugh. “Emmy, quit pretending. I don’t believe you’d actually shoot in here.”
Shelly was convinced Emmy was bluffing. She glanced at Wiona and snapped, “Wiona, what are you standing around for? Take her away. She won’t dare hurt you.”
Wiona thought so too. In her mind, Emmy was just a pampered socialite, probably shaking just from holding a gun. No way she’d actually pull the trigger. With that thought, something fierce flashed in Wiona’s eyes.
“Sorry, Ms. Lincoln.” Her voice was low and determined. Ignoring the gun pointed at her, she charged forward.
Penny was quick, moving to block her instantly. Punches and kicks flew in the hallway, echoing off the walls. Wiona was no pushover—she was one of the best fighters in the White family, every move sharp and calculated, aimed to take Penny down. Penny fought back hard, but she had to protect Emmy who was right behind her, so she couldn’t go all out. After a few exchanges, neither could get the upper hand.
Then Wiona landed a strong palm strike, forcing Penny back, and reached for Emmy’s shoulder. Emmy’s eyes went icy cold. She didn’t hesitate.
The gunshot exploded in the hallway. The sound was so sharp and loud that everything just stopped. No one moved. No one spoke.
The bullet wasn’t aimed at Wiona’s head. As she squeezed the trigger, Emmy lifted her wrist just a bit. The bullet flew past Wiona’s head, slicing clean through her ponytail holder. There was a soft snap, and suddenly Wiona’s perfectly tied hair tumbled down, leaving her looking wild and shocked. Singed strands of hair drifted to the floor. A split second later, the bullet buried itself in the ceiling, sending down a sprinkle of dust.
“What was that noise?”
“Was that… a gunshot?”
“Who in their right mind would fire a gun in the middle of headquarters?”
At the other end of the hall, James had just stepped out of the elevator. The sound of the gun—heavy and unmistakable—hit him hard. He recognized it instantly. That was a Browning.
James’s heart clenched tight. He took off running.

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
