James rested his big hand on her head, fingers threading gently through her soft hair. He wanted to lighten the mood, maybe make her laugh, so he kept going.
“I think your good luck must have rubbed off on me. In the middle of my jump, the base blew up. The blast threw me straight into a swamp. And then, guess what happened when I finally crawled out?”
He stopped there, letting the suspense build.
Emmy blinked at him, not following. “What happened?”
He grinned, lips curling up. “I ran smack into their boss, who was trying to make a run for it. He probably never thought someone would just drop out of the sky right in front of him. I didn’t even hesitate. Took down a couple of his guys and shoved his face right into the mud. Brought him in alive. That’s a big deal, you know. So really, this award I got? You helped. You shared your luck with me.”
Emmy stared at him, completely stunned. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “What does that have to do with me?” she protested. “You’re just lucky, and you earned that medal because you risked your life. Quit trying to give me the credit.”
Her face turned serious, voice more determined than he’d ever heard. “James, listen to me. You can’t count on luck every time. You can’t keep risking your life like that. Even if you’re on a mission, you have to take care of yourself first, understand?”
She sounded so much like a little manager, scolding him, but instead of being annoyed, James felt a rush of warmth in his chest.
“Okay, I hear you,” he said, his voice gentle. He paused for a beat and let out a slow breath. “But you don’t have to worry anymore. It’s all over here. That whole organization is finished. When I get back, I’ll be moving to a desk job. No more charging into battle for me.” For a second, a hint of sadness flickered across his face. “The Dragonscale team will probably be disbanded when we return.”
Emmy froze. That team had been his for years. It was his pride, his family, everything he’d poured his heart into. Her relief that he’d be safe came with a bittersweet pang, because she knew what that meant to him.

chapter 1251 has no wording, just the chapter number...
What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....
CHAPTER 1220 HAS NO WORDING JUST THE CHAPTER NUMBER...
Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
