Emmy rubbed at her chest, forcing a lighthearted smile. “It’s nothing.”
“If I’d known you were heading back to the Capital, I would’ve brought the gifts for my friends there. You could’ve taken them with you.”
James ran his fingers through her hair. “I’ll have Joshua pick them up later.”
Emmy nodded and let it go.
Worried she might start overthinking, James decided to answer her earlier question, giving her a reason that made sense.
“I’m going back to the Capital to see how those two are handling their fight.”
Emmy hugged his waist, holding him tighter. “Promise me you’ll be careful. Text me about where you are, all the time. Don’t disappear again. And… don’t get hurt anymore.”
Her voice was thick with worry, her words soft but heavy.
James felt his heart melt. He lowered his head and kissed the top of hers. “Yes, ma’am.”
That night, neither of them could sleep, knowing tomorrow meant goodbye. Just holding each other, talking about anything and everything, felt precious. They didn’t do much, but it was enough. Eventually, as the sky outside grew pale with the first light of dawn, they finally drifted off, tangled up together.
The next day, the weather in the border town was beautiful. Sunshine chased away the winter chill. For once, they allowed themselves to relax. They walked through the little town hand in hand, like any regular couple, sampling the local food and just enjoying the moment.
When they got back to the hospital that evening, there was more good news. Will would be moving to a regular room tomorrow.
Since waking up, his recovery had been nothing short of amazing. In just two days, all his vitals had stabilized. He was even joking around with Abriella.
Hearing that, Emmy finally let herself breathe easy.
Outside the hospital room, Emmy handed Abriella the clean clothes and toiletries she’d picked up in town. Abriella already looked much better, no longer like she might break at any moment.
She took the bag, then hugged Emmy tight after hearing she’d be leaving in the morning.
“Emmy, you have to take care of yourself over there.”
Emmy smoothed Abriella’s messy bangs and spoke gently. “Penny’s with me, don’t worry. But you need to look after yourself too, while you’re taking care of Will. Don’t wear yourself out.”
They chatted in the hallway for a bit before James showed up, grabbing Emmy’s hand and pulling her away.
When they got downstairs, Emmy noticed her suitcase had already been packed and loaded into the back of the SUV. She blinked in surprise and looked up at James.
“You packed my stuff? Why’d you bring it down so early? My flight’s not until tomorrow. Or… did you change my flight?”

chapter 1251 has no wording, just the chapter number...
What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....
CHAPTER 1220 HAS NO WORDING JUST THE CHAPTER NUMBER...
Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
