Emmy scanned the crowd, her eyes settling on a perfectly made-up face. Isabel. The woman who had just thrown shade at her was standing right next to Isabel, not even trying to hide her allegiance.
Emmy’s memories of Isabel were stuck in the past. Back then, Isabel was more than just the city’s number one socialite, she was the warm, caring older sister who always looked out for her. Things were different now. Isabel had launched Smart Health, teamed up with Tyler to steal Sync’s share of the market, and then married him. All the warmth Emmy felt for her had faded, replaced by a cool indifference. Even now, as Isabel’s companion insulted her, Isabel didn’t lift a finger to stop it. The gentle, generous Isabel she remembered no longer existed.
Emmy let out a silent laugh. She met the taunts head-on, her tone calm. “It’s a bit soon to say who’s coming out on top.”
The woman just kept going, raising her voice. “You really don’t know when to quit, do you? The AI Prosthetics award at this gala has only two nominees, and one of them is our Ms. Summer’s Smart Health. Right now, Smart Health is leading the field, the data proves it, and we have the top market share. This award is basically already ours.”
She looked so pleased with herself, practically glaring down at Emmy. “And as for your sad little Sync… please, spare yourself the embarrassment. Once we win, Sync might as well disappear for good.”
Her arrogance was on full display, and people passing by couldn’t help but stare. Only then did Isabel finally speak, turning her head slightly. Her voice was soft. “That’s enough, Liu. Don’t jump to conclusions before anything’s official.”
Liu’s attitude changed in a split second. She gave Isabel a sweet, sycophantic smile. “Ms. Summer, you’re just too modest! I did my homework. The other nominee only rushed their application in at the last minute. There’s no way it can compete with Smart Health. That trophy is as good as yours.”
The people standing behind Emmy couldn’t understand what was being said, but the tension in the air was obvious, especially from the way the other group looked at her. One of Emmy’s colleagues leaned in, voice low. “Emmy, what are they talking about? They seem pretty hostile.”
Harlene narrowed her eyes, glaring at the other group. “Boss, want us to step in? That woman’s asking for it.”

What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
