The message was sent. No reply.
James stared at the screen for a few seconds, disappointment flickering in his eyes. He slipped his phone into his pocket and walked briskly toward the waiting area outside the interview rooms.
Backstage, in the media center, camera flashes burst over and over, and the sound of shutters filled the air. Emmy wasn’t with her team right now. She’d been pulled aside by a few of the biggest media outlets for a solo interview.
The bouquet of flowers had landed carelessly on a nearby table. Emmy stood in front of a wall plastered with sponsor logos, gripping her trophy so hard her nails dug into her palm. The bite of pain was the only thing keeping her grounded.
“Ms. Lincoln, how did you first come up with the core logic for this algorithm?”
“Ms. Lincoln, what’s your view on the ethical boundaries for AI in the future?”
Emmy kept her smile perfectly in place, answering each question with poise. Her voice was clear, confident, her words organized and professional. She was every bit the expert they expected.
Of course, not every reporter cared about the technical stuff. In a world obsessed with clicks and drama, some were just itching for something juicier. They wanted to know about the personal life of this young, beautiful, brilliant woman.
A guy in glasses muscled his way to the front and shoved his microphone practically in Emmy’s face. “Ms. Lincoln, is it true you’re married?”
“Everyone’s dying to know. What kind of man could win over someone as talented as you?”
Emmy’s smile faltered just a little. She met his eyes, her tone polite but distant. “Sorry, I’d rather not answer personal questions that aren’t related to my work.”
But the reporters weren’t letting up.
Another woman jumped in, her words sharp and relentless. “Are you dodging the question because your marriage isn’t going well?”
“Or is it that you’ve been so focused on your career that you’ve neglected your family, and that’s caused problems?”
That one pierced deep, right where she was already hurting. Neglect her family? Relationship falling apart?

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
