A storm brewed in John’s blue eyes. He looked at Emmy, noticing how tired and pale she looked, and his anger only burned hotter.
“Alright, I’ll call someone,” he said, already fishing out his phone.
Before he could do anything, Emmy slipped out of Harlene’s arms. She seemed strangely calm, her voice steady. “I’m fine.”
She tried to smile at everyone. “Thanks, really, but... please don’t get anyone involved. Don’t hurt him.”
Harlene stared at her in shock. “Emmy, you can’t seriously still care about him, right?” She grabbed Emmy’s shoulders, shaking her a little, her frustration clear. “Wake up! Don’t let love make you stupid. He cheated on you!”
Emmy frowned, shaking her head gently. “It’s not about caring for him.” She paused, her voice barely above a whisper. “I just don’t want any of you to get hurt.”
“You don’t stand a chance against him.”
John hesitated, then scoffed and waved his phone. “Emmy, you’re really underestimating us. I can call some people, hire the best muscle around. No matter how tough he is, he can’t take on a crew of professionals.”
Emmy looked up, something complicated flickering in her eyes. She knew exactly what James was capable of. “Even the best fighters wouldn’t win,” she said softly.
She let out a long sigh. “Please, don’t worry about me. I’ll handle this myself.”
“If he really cheated... I’ll go ask him myself.”
Harlene let out a hopeless groan. “That’s it, you’re hopeless. Do you really think he’s unstoppable? Is he some kind of superhero?”
“And even if you ask, you think he’ll admit it? Guys like that just come up with more lies.”
Harlene prided herself on knowing men, and she’d seen too many like him. She was scared Emmy, who’d always been so focused on her studies, would get her heart broken and not even see it coming.
Emmy clamped her lips together and gently rubbed her wedding ring, her fingers lingering on the simple band. It was the plain ring they’d bought together in that little border town. Ever since James had slid it onto her finger, she’d never taken it off.
“I have to ask him myself,” she whispered. “If he really can’t let go of Mercedes...”
Her heart clenched, the ache so sharp it was almost hard to breathe.
“I’ll let them be together.”
“But... what if it’s all just a misunderstanding?”
She tried so hard to give herself some hope. James was a soldier, someone who always took his responsibilities seriously. How could he possibly cheat on his wife?

chapter 1251 has no wording, just the chapter number...
What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....
CHAPTER 1220 HAS NO WORDING JUST THE CHAPTER NUMBER...
Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
