When Abis heard the word “child,” the indifference in his eyes vanished, replaced by something dark and hard to read.
He lifted his hand to wave over a passing waiter. A glass of red wine landed between his fingers. He tilted it gently, watching the deep red leave thin trails along the inside of the glass.
A crooked, almost obsessive smile tugged at his lips. “So what?”
He took a slow sip, eyes picking up a dangerous glint. “Doesn’t the fact that she has a child just mean she’s healthy? If she could have James’s baby, I’m sure she could give me one too.”
Isabel stared at him, barely recognizing the man in front of her. Handsome? Sure. But right now he seemed downright unhinged. That logic was seriously twisted.
“You’re impossible,” Isabel snapped, trying to keep her voice steady. She took a breath, trying hard to stay calm. “Mr. Abis, if this is really the direction you’re going, I think it’s best we end our partnership.”
Abis glanced her way. His gaze was cold, almost mocking, and his lips curled in a humorless smile. “What, Ms. Summer? Are you really that jealous of Ms. Lincoln? Can’t stand it if someone shows the slightest interest in her?”
Isabel flinched, guilt and frustration mixing as she tried to protest. “That’s not it, I just…”
“Ms. Summer,” Abis’ voice cut through with icy calm.
“When you’re this jealous, it only means you’ve already admitted to yourself that she’s outdone you. If you want to change that, you need to outshine her. Work on yourself. Make her jealous of you for a change. Throwing fits and playing these petty games just makes you look desperate.”
His tone was soft but dripping with cruel sarcasm. “As for our partnership…”
He gave a light shrug, unbothered. “Of course, you can end it whenever you want. I’ll just make sure the next person gets the opportunity instead.”
He sipped his wine and walked off, not sparing Isabel so much as another glance.
Isabel just stood there, face dark with emotion, calculations racing through her mind.
“Wait!”
The word shot out before she realized it. Abis slowed, but didn’t look back.
She took a steadying breath, like she was swallowing her pride. “She’s never going to fall for you, you know. Emmy might seem sweet, but deep down, she has really high standards.”
“We can keep working together. I just don’t want your obsession with Emmy getting in the way of business.”
Abis chuckled, quiet but full of derision. He didn’t say a word. Instead, he just waved her off, walking away with a laid-back confidence that made it clear he’d already moved on.

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
