Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1295

The bedroom was Emmy’s safe haven, but right now it felt like her own personal tomb. She wrapped herself so tightly in the comforter that even her toes were hidden, everything cocooned under the blanket. If she could just disappear, she would. Honestly, she wished she could die of embarrassment right now. In both this life and the last, she had never been this socially destroyed. Two decades spent keeping up her angelic, perfect-daughter act around her elders—thrown out the window in a single second. How was she supposed to face anyone ever again?

Every time Emmy remembered the stunned shock in her mom’s eyes, she just wanted to crawl under the floor and never come out.

The doorknob clicked. Emmy froze, clutching the blanket tighter, refusing to risk even an inch of exposure. There was no way she was letting anyone see her right now.

James stood by the doorway, barely hiding the smile tugging at his lips as he took in the sight of the human-sized lump on the bed. He strolled over to the closet, pulled out a long blue dress with a high neckline and a skirt that reached all the way to the floor—nothing could be safer or more boring. He plopped down on the side of the bed and patted the covers.

“Emmy, come on out.”

A muffled groan came from under the blanket, frustration dripping from every word. “I’m not coming out. I’d rather just suffocate in here.”

James tugged gently at the edge of the covers. “Come on, don’t make it difficult. Mom and Andrew are here to say goodbye. They’re leaving the island and came to see you before heading out.”

Instantly, Emmy’s head popped out of the cocoon, her face blotchy and red, hair sticking up in wild clumps and eyes blazing with indignation. She shot daggers at James.

“Why didn’t you tell me they were coming?” she hissed. “Do you even realize how mortifying that was?”

Just the memory made her whole body cringe. She could practically still hear her own ridiculous, lovesick “Honey…” echoing in her ears.

All James could think was how adorable she looked when she got like this. He reached over to smooth down her messy hair, his voice tender and teasing.

“I didn’t know you were planning on surprising me… quite that much.”

His eyes drifted down to her bare shoulder peeking out from the blanket and lingered, growing just a little darker.

“They’re not going to mind. They’ve been through all this before. They get it. And from now on, you only have to wear things like that for me, not anyone else.”

He tucked her hair behind her ear, coaxing her softly.

“Come on, just change and say goodbye. Don’t keep them waiting or they’ll start guessing what we’re doing in here, which would be way more embarrassing.”

It took a lot of gentle persuasion, but Emmy finally took a deep breath and agreed. She put on the conservative blue dress, doing her best to look as demure and proper as possible, desperately hoping to reclaim even a little bit of dignity.

Out in the living room, Teresa and Andrew were waiting. They’d been sitting for a while and had just started to wonder if the newlyweds were getting a bit too caught up behind closed doors. They exchanged a look and started to stand just as the bedroom door creaked open.

James was the first to step out. Emmy trailed after him, head down and moving at a snail’s pace. She peeked out from behind him, cheeks still pink, and managed a tiny, sheepish, “Hi Mom. Hi Andrew.”
