Cooper was the third kid in his family: an older brother, an older sister, and a little brother everyone adored. Out of all of them, Cooper was the one who got the least attention.
When he got accepted into a top university thanks to his stellar grades, his family wanted him to drop out and work, just so their youngest—the family’s golden boy—could go to school. So Cooper balanced three part-time jobs while studying, sending home most of what he earned.
It was that stubborn, quiet determination that first caught Teresa’s eye. Thanks to that, Cooper somehow managed to marry into the Drennon family and climb to a whole new level.
But as soon as he’d found his footing at Starlight Corporation, his family—the ultimate freeloaders—came knocking. His dad cozied up to his mom, and together they found cushy spots for everyone in the subsidiary companies.
Even Gregory, the little brother with only an elementary school diploma, somehow became a purchasing director. He turned the place into a disaster zone, and their dad had to step in behind the scenes to clean up his mess.
And now this whole group had the nerve to call a “family meeting” and blame her for bad parenting?
What a joke.
Emmy hung up, her face darkening with frustration.
The rest of the drive was quiet.
The Porsche finally pulled up in front of the villa’s ornate iron gates.
James glanced over at her. “Want me to come in with you?”
Emmy shook her head, almost automatically. “No, I’ve got this.”
She opened the car door, barely stepping out when a sarcastic voice floated her way.
“Well, well, if it isn’t Emmy. Back already?”
A woman in a Chanel suit, clinging to her slick-haired husband, sauntered out of the garden with a smirk that couldn’t have been more fake.
It was Pattie, Gregory’s daughter.
Pattie gave Emmy a long, obvious once-over, then shot a pointed look at the car. “Where’s that brand-new husband of yours? What, too embarrassed to show him off to the family?”
Pattie snapped back to herself, yanking Emmy closer with a forced smile, her voice dropping low.
“Not bad, Emmy. Where’d you find a guy like that? No wonder you couldn’t wait to get married.” She sounded jealous as hell. “But just so you know, the good-looking ones are always the biggest players. Don’t let him fool you.”
Emmy glanced back and saw Pattie’s husband doing his best to block James, trying to keep him from following.
She pulled her arm out of Pattie’s grip. “If you have enough time to worry about me, maybe focus on your own life. I’ve heard your husband’s never out of the gossip pages. If you’re okay with that, you’re honestly impressive.”
Pattie’s expression went sour.
Before she could snap back, Emmy turned and strode over to James.
She ignored Pattie’s husband, who tried to say something, grabbed James’s hand, and pulled him straight toward the house.
“Come on. Let’s go in.”

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
