Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 1303

Emmy fixed her with a cold stare.

That shout had been right on target, coming at the exact moment Emmy shifted her weight forward, when it was already too late to stop herself.

Face grim, Emmy said, “You dive all the time, so you know it has to be completely silent right before a jump. Don’t act clueless. You know exactly what you were doing when you yelled like that.”

This wasn’t her being paranoid. That instant had been dangerously close. If she hadn’t been working out so much lately, if her core wasn’t strong enough to let her adjust her entry, she could have been in real trouble. Just a little more off, and she’d probably have ruptured something inside.

She was still aching all over, every muscle burning. At this point, she’d need at least an hour before she could even think about doing anything else.

Isabel’s face twisted into a wounded frown. “Emmy, how could you think that about me?”

“I know that whatever I say now, you’ll just assume I had some kind of hidden agenda,” Isabel went on, voice small. “But I swear, I mean it—I wasn’t trying to hurt you. I wanted to help and just hang out for real.”

Emmy cut her off with a bitter laugh. “I don’t need your help. Just keep your distance.”

She had barely clambered up onto the rocks when a sudden, furious shout erupted behind her, loud as a crack of thunder.

“Emmy!”

That voice was full of rage and fear, enough to drown out the crash of the waves.

Emmy’s entire body tensed. She turned before she could even think about it.

James was storming toward her, soaked through, dressed in black, looking like he’d clawed his way out of the underworld. His face was so dark, it was almost scary.

In that split second, Emmy’s legs nearly gave out from the jolt of panic.

All she could think was, Shit, this man really chased me all the way into the ocean just to drag me back for that.

But before she could react, James reached her, his whole presence radiating cold and danger. Without a word, he grabbed her wrist.

He didn’t say anything at first. His expression was tight as he quickly checked her over, running his hands from her neck down her arms and legs, then across her ribs.

Only after he was sure she wasn’t broken or bleeding inside did James finally let out the breath he was holding.

He looked at Emmy, his anger suddenly boiling over.

With a voice rough and low, he nearly growled at her, “Who told you it was okay to do extreme sports by yourself like this?”

“Twenty-eight meters. Do you have any idea what would happen if you hit the water wrong? If your angle was even a tiny bit off, you could have died.”

“Emmy, do you seriously think your life is just yours to gamble with?”

James almost never lost it like this.

Looking at her now—her hair wet and dripping, eyes bold and refusing to back down—he closed his own for a second and took a steadying breath.

When he opened them, those eyes of his looked stormy and wild.

“Fine.”

His voice was so deep it almost sounded dangerous.

“You want to play? I’ll play with you, as much as you want.”

Emmy’s heart dropped. Suddenly, she had a feeling that his idea of “playing” might be way more dangerous than anything that happened in the bedroom.

But it was too late to back out now.

And really, if pushing her limits meant she’d get her memory back sooner, she’d go through anything, no matter how hard or crazy.

She swallowed and forced herself to meet his eyes. “So... are we still diving?”

James let out a cold laugh, wrapped an arm around her waist, and started leading her away.

“Diving? Boring. Let’s find something with a real rush.”
