The exact second they burst out of the fortress doors and their boots hit the empty beach, a terrifying, muffled roar erupted from deep within the earth beneath them.
Boom.
The underground laboratory behind them was utterly pulverized from the inside out in a series of continuous, chained explosions. A massive fireball shot into the sky as the entire mountain collapsed, forming a bottomless, terrifying crater. Seawater instantly rushed in over the crumbling cliffs, pouring madly into the void. Countless debris, corpses, and sins were ruthlessly swallowed by the murky, churning ocean.
Fortunately, James and his team had run fast enough to clear the blast radius and avoid being caught in the destruction. Standing in a safe zone, James stared at the ruined laboratory now completely submerged in seawater, his expression grim to the absolute extreme.
Will, standing beside him, wiped cold sweat from his face and spoke with certainty. "Master Sergeant, Emmy must have been transferred out long before this. Even though Dean is a lunatic, there is no way he'd just leave her behind in this kind of danger. If they arranged an evacuation half an hour ago, she is definitely on that ship."
James turned sharply. His dark eyes radiated a chilling murderous intent in the night as he barked his orders. "Leave a small squad behind to clear the area. Everyone else, board the choppers and speedboats right now. We are going to reinforce Calony."
Without a second of hesitation, the men divided up, leaping onto helicopters and speedboats as they tore across the water.
That night, the waters around the entire triangular coast dissolved into absolute chaos. Various factions engaged in a frenzied bloodbath across the ocean surface. Major General Calony had just led his elite troops to wipe out the remnants of Hector's cartel, and before he could even catch his breath, he slammed head-on into the heavily armed mercenaries breaking out from the laboratory. On top of that, desperate outlaws seemed to spawn out of nowhere, all trying to snatch Dean from his grasp.
Deafening gunfire and artillery blasts echoed relentlessly across the sea, the fiery explosions turning the pitch-black sky as bright as day. This chaotic, multi-faction bloodbath raged on until the early hours of the next morning. Even when the first piercing rays of sunlight tore through the horizon, there was still no end in sight.
