“Something’s different about you… Have you been filling out lately? Are you sneaking snacks behind my back or what?”
Emmy just stared at her, speechless.
Abriella sidled closer, wiggling her eyebrows with a wicked grin. “Or—wait—don’t tell me it’s your husband taking such good care of you?”
She let out a dramatic gasp and stroked her chin like she was solving a mystery. “Whatever he’s doing, it’s working. Maybe I should find myself a man too, huh?”
Emmy’s cheeks turned hot at her shameless teasing. She couldn’t be bothered to reply and turned to walk away.
“Hey, don’t go!” Abriella hurried after her, slipping her arm around Emmy’s shoulders. “Alright, I’ll stop. Let’s talk about something real for a minute.”
“So, do you know why Isabel suddenly came back? Did you ever hear what really made her leave all those years ago?”
Emmy only remembered that Mr. Nelson sent Isabel abroad, so she asked, “Why?”
Abriella glanced around, then leaned in and dropped her voice even lower. “Four years ago, she took off all her clothes and climbed into Mr. Nelson’s bed.”
Emmy’s eyes widened in shock.
Abriella shook her head. “Mr. Nelson totally lost it. He had her disappear that very night. The Summers shipped her out of the country so fast her feet barely touched the ground.”
“She’s been away for years, probably just focused on keeping her figure. Now she’s twenty-eight and still acting like some innocent grad student at Capital College, like nothing ever happened.”
Emmy could hardly believe what she was hearing. In her mind, Isabel was always the elegant, perfect heiress. How could she have done something like that?
But if Abriella said it, it had to be true—she never made things up.
Just like that, the goddess she’d always admired shattered in Emmy’s mind.
Emmy frowned. “Didn’t she get a full-ride PhD offer from Harvard? I heard she’s working on some big research team. How could she…”
Abriella shrugged. “She did get the offer. But she’s still just a grad student. Twenty-eight and still in school. You don’t see that every day.”
Emmy lowered her voice. “Maybe… she lost a few years because she was secretly married to Mr. Nelson.”
Abriella blinked. “What? Secretly married? Who?”
She finally stopped, transferred her core files to her phone, and wiped every trace from her laptop.
She met James outside the hospital entrance.
As soon as they stepped into the elevator, his cool, intense presence seemed to fill the space.
Emmy looked up at him. “Go see Dr. Hall for the discharge papers.”
But James took her hand, his voice low and steady. “Alright, but you’re coming with me.”
She started to say something, but the words never came out. Looking into his deep eyes, she felt a sense of reassurance she couldn’t explain.
When they got to the hospital room, it was empty.
Even the bodyguard outside was gone.
A jolt of panic shot through Emmy. She grabbed a passing nurse, her voice trembling. “My mother—where is she? Where did the patient from this room go?”

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
