The knot in James’s chest disappeared all at once.
So that was it. She wasn’t mad at Dean at all—she was mad at him, for not trusting her and for second-guessing himself.
He let out a low sigh, suddenly aware of how much he cared, how quick he’d been to jump to conclusions.
“Okay. I get it.”
He pulled her tighter, holding her close, and made a promise. “It won’t happen again. I mean it.”
Emmy slipped her soft hand around his waist and gave him a gentle pat.
“Let’s get some sleep. We should head back early tomorrow.”
“My project is at a critical point. I’m so close to finishing.”
“Mm.” James answered softly, closing his eyes, feeling calm and safe with her in his arms.
The next morning, as they were leaving, the butler was quietly giving Teresa an update.
“Mr. Sparrow caught a serious cold, high fever, he’s back in the hospital.”
Emmy barely looked over, her voice cool and steady. “From now on, don’t let him set foot in the house again.”
And with that, she left with James.
For the next few days, Emmy was running back and forth between Pepper Estate and Applewood Estate, completely absorbed in putting the finishing touches on her system.
The one thing that made her feel better was seeing Dr. Pepper finally take the health check voucher James had given him and actually go get examined.
The results were good—his stomach was perfectly healthy.
Still, Emmy made sure to remind the housekeeper who looked after Dr. Pepper every day.
“Even with a clean bill of health, don’t let your guard down. From now on, make sure he eats three proper meals a day, on time.”
What she didn’t say was that she’d missed her period for a whole month. She was used to irregular cycles—last time she was trying for a baby, she’d gone through every herbal and western medicine out there, and her hormones had never really recovered.
So when she was late this time, she didn’t think much of it at first. Plus, she and James had always been careful. No way there could be an accident.
But as more time passed, she couldn’t help feeling a growing sense of dread.
Abriella’s concern was instant. “Are you not feeling well? Want to go to the hospital now?”
“No, it’s okay,” Emmy shook her head. “I’ve already made an appointment with a doctor I trust, but the earliest she could see me is next Monday. Plus, I want a full checkup—it’ll take a while.”
Abriella didn’t hesitate. “Got it. I’ll take Monday off and go with you.”
Emmy gave her a grateful look, then added quietly, “Don’t tell your cousin about this. Promise me.”
She barely finished speaking when a deep, familiar voice sounded behind them.
“Don’t tell me what?”

What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
