“I was actually planning to go check out your competition at the arena with my cousin after I dropped you off today.”
“But then the devil himself called and ordered me to get my butt back to the detective agency right away!”
“So Will flew me back in his helicopter. Emmy, you should have seen him—he looked so freaking hot flying that thing!”
Abriella cupped her face, looking completely smitten.
“I couldn’t help myself. As soon as we landed, I flirted with him and said, ‘Hey, maybe we should give it a shot.’”
“And guess what? Steve came charging over out of nowhere like a mad dog, yanked me away from Will, and threatened to fire me on the spot if I even thought about dating him!”
“I swear, I hate being threatened more than anything!”
“So I told him, fine, fire me if you want! Who even cares? I just spun around and walked out of there!”
Emmy listened to this whirlwind story, honestly at a loss for words.
One of them was her best friend’s fated match in a past life. The other was her husband’s best friend in this one.
No matter what she said, it felt like she was going to pick the wrong side.
After a long pause, Emmy finally asked, carefully, “Do you… actually like Will?”
Just hearing his name made all the anger fade from Abriella’s face. She smiled, soft and sweet.
She nodded, hard.
“He’s actually such a good guy. Seriously. I just feel so relaxed around him—safe, even.”
“And the best part?” Abriella’s smile grew, her eyes all sparkly. “He’s so pure. I just have to tease him a little and he goes bright red, all the way up to his ears. It’s honestly adorable.”
Seeing her friend so happy made Emmy’s own feelings way more complicated.
Almost without thinking, she blurted out, “What about Steve? Did you ever… like him?”
“Waiting for Steve to change is just exhausting. It’s easier to let myself move on. When I told Will, ‘Why don’t we give it a try?’ I finally felt like I could breathe again.”
Emmy listened, her heart aching.
Memories from her past life came rushing in, and she couldn’t help but say, “Have you ever thought that maybe… Steve actually likes you too?”
Abriella snorted, like Emmy had just cracked the world’s funniest joke.
“Oh, Emmy, please don’t be so naïve. You think I haven’t wondered about that?”
“Just last month, we were on a work trip together. I got tipsy on purpose and tried to flirt with him. He didn’t even look at me—just acted like I didn’t exist. Made me feel like a total joke.”
She finished, breathless, then suddenly narrowed her eyes at Emmy, like she was piecing something together.
“Wait a minute… Aren’t you way closer to Will? Shouldn’t you be rooting for me and him, not dragging Steve into this?”
“Why does it sound like you’re actually trying to set me up with Steve?”

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
