“What else is she here for? Obviously, she wants to stop the Dome from being taken down. But honestly, it’s pointless. If even you and Rory couldn’t fix the technical issues, what can she do except embarrass herself?”
Evelina didn’t respond. She quickly washed her hands, said a quick, “I’ve got to go,” to the others, and hurried out of the restroom.
She ducked into an empty hallway and called Dean right away.
The moment he picked up, her voice sounded soft and a little vulnerable.
“Dean, Emmy showed up at Starlight Corporation. She’s here for the shareholders’ meeting. I’m sure she wants to stop the Dome from being replaced.”
She hesitated, her tone caught between loyalty and duty.
“But you know as well as I do how serious the Dome’s issues are. She’s putting me in a tough spot. I don’t know if I should put the company first, or if I should help her because we’re sisters.”
Dean’s voice went cold.
“She’s never cared about your feelings, so why should you care about hers?”
“She’s seriously out of line. I’m calling her right now. I’ll tell her to leave the shareholders’ meeting. Right now!”
Emmy got Dean’s call just as she entered the conference room. She took her time finding her seat, sat down, and put in her earbuds.
It took three calls before she finally picked up.
“Emmy!”
Dean’s voice came through, low and tight with anger.
“Did you even listen to me? Why do you have to go against Evelina? Get out of the shareholders’ meeting. Now.”
A cold, almost amused smile flickered across Emmy’s face.
“I’m the legal heir to Starlight Corporation, Dean. This is my job. Even my parents can’t make me leave. Why would you think you could?”
Dean’s voice dropped even lower.
“You’re not the legal heir until you’re married, and you know it. The Dome is outdated. Evelina’s Skyline System is the perfect replacement. No matter what you do, the result won’t change. Why make it ugly by fighting her?”
He flipped it open without thinking, then stared at the page, eyes wide in shock.
Emmy quickly took it back. She must have grabbed it along with her laptop by accident. She slid it away, making a mental note—she’d need it soon.
Rory leaned in, voice lowered in disbelief.
“Ms. Lincoln, when did you get married?”
“Two weeks ago. It was a whirlwind.”
Rory drew a sharp breath, then gave her a big thumbs-up, clearly impressed.
He couldn’t help but admire her.
Ms. Lincoln really was something else. Dumped by Mr. Sparrow one day, and already married to someone even better the next. Just from that quick glimpse of the photo, he could tell—the guy had sharp features and stood tall. Definitely handsome, definitely dependable.
Now that’s what you call a comeback.

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
