Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 752

Emmy went rigid, yanking her hand away without thinking.

James felt her slip from his grasp, and it left him feeling unexpectedly hollow inside.

He didn’t bother answering his grandmother. Instead, he stood up and said, “I need to make a call.”

Emmy kept her gaze lowered. The tingling warmth his touch had left on her skin slowly faded away, leaving her chest oddly empty too.

Lunch ended quietly, everyone trapped in their own thoughts.

Afterward, Emmy walked with Grandma in the garden, hoping the stroll would help them digest. The afternoon sun was gentle, wrapping them both in a soft glow.

“Grandma, look at this rose. Isn’t it beautiful?” Emmy guided the old woman, pointing to a pink blossom in full bloom.

Grandma smiled, but as they chatted, her words trickled off. Before long, she just stopped walking. She stared at a small patch of purple flowers Emmy didn’t recognize, her eyes suddenly distant and blank.

“Grandma?” Emmy called softly.

No response.

“Grandma, are you okay?” she tried again, giving Grandma’s arm a gentle shake.

It was like waking someone from a dream. Grandma blinked, turning her head to look at Emmy, her gaze foggy as if she were searching for something familiar. Then, all at once, a bright smile spread across her face.

“Oh, my granddaughter-in-law! Are you out here enjoying the flowers too?”

Her eyes drifted down to Emmy’s belly, and she looked completely stunned.

“Oh goodness, don’t just stand there! Sit down, quickly!”

“Look at your tummy. You must be far along. Are you about to have the baby?”

Emmy’s chest tightened, her throat clogged with words she couldn’t say. A sharp, bitter ache rose up inside her.

She glanced over at the covered walkway, searching for an anchor.

James was leaning there, but he straightened the moment he heard the commotion. Their eyes met, and Emmy saw a flash of alarm tighten his gaze.

He moved toward them in quick, purposeful strides, already pulling out his phone.

Just as they reached the walkway, two people came in through the gate.

Leading the way was Steve, swinging a black laptop bag and wearing his usual mischievous grin.

“Sis, how are you feeling?” he called out.

Emmy managed a small nod. “I’m fine.”

But then her eyes landed on the person behind Steve, and she froze in shock.

It was a face she’d seen again and again in news stories, in another life. That face, all elegance and quiet confidence, belonged to the woman who would one day stand by Jared’s side as First Lady.

Excitement shot through Emmy, so strong she forgot to keep her distance. She grabbed James’s arm without thinking.

She stared at the woman, her voice trembling with barely contained excitement.

“Who is that? Who is she?”
