Dumped My Cheating Ex. Now I'm Sleeping Next to a Billionaire CEO novel Chapter 762

Abriella walked them to the door, then came back and dropped into her chair with a groan, rubbing her temples as she looked at Will.

Will tried to reassure her. “You really don’t need to stress about it. James didn’t seem all that worked up either. Maybe the two of them have already patched things up.”

“Patched up?” Abriella shot back. “Does that look like patching things up to you?”

She let out a sigh. “Emmy’s getting harder and harder to read. I used to be able to tell what she was thinking, but now I just can’t.”

“The last time she talked to me, I could swear she was about to forgive James. But the second I tried to get her to admit it, she completely shut down and said she’d never forgive him.”

“It’s all such a mess. I just want things to be simple. Why make it so complicated? If you like someone, you just do. If you don’t, you don’t. It’s obvious they both care about each other, but they keep pretending they don’t. It’s honestly driving me up the wall!”

Will watched her rant, an amused smile creeping onto his face. “You know, you’re more anxious than they are.”

Abriella shot him a glare. “Says who? Don’t make me the anxious one!” Then she caught herself and added quickly, “Actually, wait, you definitely can’t be the anxious one. I still need you for my happily ever after, you know!”

Will’s smile only grew. He looked at her, thinking she was just impossibly cute.

In the elevator, Emmy’s two bodyguards stood quietly in the corner, trying to blend into the background.

James stared at their reflections in the elevator’s metal walls, then finally broke the silence. “If you need anything, just call me.”

Emmy just made a sound of agreement and didn’t say anything else. It almost felt like everything that happened between them earlier had just been a dream.

James’s brows drew together.

The elevator chimed.

The doors slid open. Emmy stepped out first, only to nearly bump into someone walking their way. The man’s right wrist was in a cast, his arm in a sling around his neck, and a dark bruise stood out on his otherwise handsome face.

Emmy froze for a second.

Dean caught sight of her and James coming out together and narrowed his eyes, surprised. Then his gaze settled on Emmy. “Out late tonight?” he asked.

Emmy’s voice was cool. “Going back to Moonlight Bay.” She didn’t stop, just walked past him toward her car.

She suddenly remembered Dean’s gun. Why had the disassembled parts just happened to end up on the road outside her courtyard, right where Ollie could find them?

And Dean with his wrist in a cast, a bruise on his face.

All the clues fell into place at once. Something bold took shape in her mind, but she was so tired that sleep pulled her under before she could think it through.

The next morning, the first thing Emmy did was check the security footage. She sat in the surveillance room and pulled up the recording from the road outside her courtyard that night.

Everything looked normal at first. Then, seven hours before Ollie ran out, the footage suddenly cut to black. When it came back, the timestamp had jumped forward seven hours. The whole middle section was missing.

Emmy’s face went cold. She turned to the bodyguard next to her. “Can I borrow your phone?”

He handed it over right away. Emmy dialed a number from memory. It rang twice before someone picked up.

“Hello?”

“The wound on James’s shoulder. Did you do that?”
