Emmy couldn’t figure out why he was acting like this. But she quickly realized something was off. The air smelled salty and damp, like the ocean, and she could just make out the distant sound of waves. She tried to get out of bed, but her legs felt weak and useless, as if she’d been lying there forever. It took her a long time to recover, just lying still, before she finally managed to sit up. She gripped the edge of the bed for support, then slowly got to her feet. Barefoot, she took careful steps toward the door.
Outside her room was a wide, open balcony painted in shades of blue. Emmy stepped out, and the view stopped her in her tracks. She was in a seaside villa, probably on the second floor. In front of her, the endless blue ocean stretched out under the sunlight, sparkling like it was scattered with diamonds. Just below her was a pink sand beach, the kind of dreamy color you only see in postcards. The sand was so fine it looked like crushed rose quartz, glowing softly under the sun. It stretched from right beneath her feet, all the way out to where it met the gentle blue waves.
On the beach, a few children chased after a ball. Their laughter rang out, clear and bright, even from a distance. The whole scene was so beautiful it didn’t feel real, like she’d stepped into a dream.
Emmy stood there for a long time, lost in it, before she finally pulled herself back to reality. Her mind was still foggy and confused. Last night she’d been in their villa, arguing with Dean about Evelina’s photo and those birth control pills. How did she end up here? She tried to remember, desperately searching for a clue. Something flashed through her mind, quick and slippery, and she couldn’t catch it. Then a sharp pain stabbed at her temples, like a hundred needles digging into her head.
She groaned, grabbing the balcony railing for support, waiting for the pain to ebb away. It took a while before she felt steady again.
Down below, the children noticed her and ran over, their faces sun-kissed and curious. They talked to her, voices bubbling in a language she didn’t understand. Emmy tried English. “Can you speak English?”
The kids exchanged looks, then burst out laughing and ran off, calling to each other as they disappeared down the beach.
Inside, downstairs, Dean looked furious. He gripped his phone so tightly his knuckles turned white, trying to keep his voice controlled. “How could you screw this up?”
Dean saw the way she looked at him, wary and guarded, and his face tightened. He hadn’t expected the drug to work like this, leaving Emmy’s memory frozen on the night before everything had changed between them. Still, this was better than a month ago, when her heart had belonged to James and she couldn’t stand to be near Dean. She’d screamed at him and tried to run away. Compared to that, this was almost a relief.
He quickly came up with an excuse. “Do you remember the hemorrhage?”
Emmy nodded. She lifted a hand to her stomach, feeling only emptiness. Something was missing, but she couldn’t figure out what. Confused, she frowned, searching for answers she couldn’t find.

What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
