After the yacht turned around, Dean walked alone to the back deck. He gripped the railing so tightly that his knuckles turned white. His eyes were fixed coldly on the island getting smaller in the distance, shadows swirling in his gaze like a gathering storm. He never thought James would show up this fast. He was already here.

This wasn’t good. Dean knew he had to push his own side to move faster. If things dragged on, it was only a matter of time before James found the pink sand island. Just thinking about it made the air around Dean feel heavy and cold.

On the other side of the deck, Emmy stood quietly, her long hair fluttering in the sea breeze. She watched the yacht slice through the water, sending up sprays of white waves. For a moment, she seemed lost in her own world.

Then, as if something invisible tugged at her, Emmy snapped her head up. She stared at the island, now just a tiny black dot on the horizon. She turned back, unable to hold back her question. “Why… did we suddenly change plans?”

The maid behind her stepped forward right away, clearly following strict instructions. She hovered close, almost wrapping her arms around Emmy, like she was scared Emmy might do something reckless. “Ma’am, it’s probably because it’s getting late. The master was worried you’d be tired, so he wanted to take you back to rest early.”

Emmy didn’t push for more answers. She just turned her eyes back to the sea and watched until that little black speck finally disappeared. Whatever strange feeling had tugged at her heart faded, leaving behind an even deeper emptiness.

At the same moment, back on the island, James was showing Emmy’s picture to a coconut vendor. “Excuse me, have you seen this woman? She’s my wife.”

Before the vendor could respond, James suddenly felt his heart skip. He looked up at the water. A yacht was already just a dot, slipping away where the sea met the sky. He couldn’t see anything, but the dread in his chest was so strong it almost crushed him.

He shoved the photo back into his pocket and sprinted down the sand toward his speedboat. He had to try and catch up. But when he jumped in and turned the key, the engine only sputtered a few times before dying for good.

James’s eyebrows drew together. Something was wrong. Just then, he heard a sudden rustle in the coconut grove. More than a dozen mercenaries, suited up and armed, stepped out, all their guns pointed right at him.

Underwater, with bullets and blood swirling around him, James dove deeper. He shot through the water toward the nearest mercenary like a shark. Before the man could react, James grabbed the barrel of his gun and twisted it upward, then slammed his elbow into the other man’s mask.

The mask shattered with a sharp crack, and the man screamed. James snatched his gun, yanked him close to use as a shield, and fired at the others closing in.

Shots burst through the water. Several mercenaries went down, blood blooming in the blue. The man James used as a shield drew a dagger and tried to stab him. James caught his wrist, twisted it back hard, and felt the bone break with a dull pop.

He didn’t pause for a second. He took out the rest of the attackers as quickly as he could, shoved his makeshift shield away, and kicked off into deeper water.

He moved through the reefs like he belonged there, quick and silent, weaving through rocks and shadows until he left his pursuers far behind.
