His breath was hot against her ear, voice rough and low, like he’d swallowed gravel.
“Look at me.”
“Emmy, do you see me? Do you know who I am?”
That fever, the one she thought the cold water had killed, started creeping back under her skin, hotter than ever.
Emmy’s mind was foggy, everything blurring together. Instinct pulled her forward, reaching out for the only thing in the room that felt steady and cool.
Her fingers landed on something slick and cold—a suit jacket, soaking wet but still sharp and expensive.
She forced her eyes open, blinking until she could make out the man in front of her. The tailored suit clung to him, soaked through but still crisp.
A jolt of fear shot through her. Emmy yanked her hand back so fast it was like she’d been shocked.
This wasn’t James. James never wore suits.
Panic squeezed her chest tight. Emmy hugged herself, shrinking back into the corner, her voice barely holding together.
“Don’t touch me… please, just go away…”
But the heat inside her only got worse, burning her up from the inside out.
She couldn’t take it anymore. Her nails dug so hard into her arms she almost broke the skin, teeth biting down on her lip, trying to wake herself up with the pain.
He caught her wrists in his big hands, gently but firmly pulling her fingers away from her mouth. His eyes were rimmed red, desperate.
“Emmy, don’t hurt yourself!”
“Let me help you!”
“No!” She found some wild spark of strength and shoved him away. “Stay back! Please, I’m begging you, don’t come any closer…”
She curled up in the coldest corner she could find, drenched, hair plastered to her face. Water mingled with tears and she couldn’t even tell the difference anymore.
With what little sense she had left, she broke down, sobbing.
“I have a husband… My husband is James…”
“I can’t betray him…”
That was it. The last bit of restraint snapped.
He took over, barely holding himself back from tearing her dress to shreds, fingers slowly sliding down the zipper—
Bang. Bang. Bang.
Just as they were about to lose themselves completely, urgent knocking exploded through the room.
From outside, someone yelled, “James, Mr. Sparrow is here with his team!”
“Shit!”
The man cursed, the red heat in his eyes fading in a blink.
He swept Emmy up, limp as a rag doll, and lowered her gently into the bathtub, turning on the cold water.
He strode out, barking at the door, “Bring me a clean set of clothes. Now!”
When he came back to the bathroom, he stopped short, staring.

chapter 1251 has no wording, just the chapter number...
What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....
CHAPTER 1220 HAS NO WORDING JUST THE CHAPTER NUMBER...
Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
I enjoy reading this. I like that the storyline isn’t drawn out and moves on. I also appreciate chapters being added almost everyday, thank you....
