Emmy didn’t say a word—which was basically her way of admitting it.
“How long do you think you can keep hiding?” Teresa gave Emmy’s hand a reassuring squeeze. “If you feel bad about what happened, why not try to make it right?”
Emmy just stared at the floor, her mood as heavy as ever.
Teresa’s voice softened even more. “I’ve only met him a couple times, but anyone can see he’s responsible. He seems like a decent guy you can actually count on.”
She hesitated, thinking carefully before she spoke again. “But… maybe he’s not exactly living the high life. Why not help him out a bit? Do something thoughtful.”
“Buy him some new clothes, or a nice pair of shoes? Maybe even a phone or a laptop?”
That got Emmy’s attention right away—her eyes brightened at the idea.
She spent the night at Teresa’s place, and the next morning, she forced herself to go to the office building next to the fire station.
The leasing manager greeted her with an over-the-top, eager smile as soon as she walked in.
“Ms. Lincoln, you really have a way with people! I can’t believe you convinced Mr. Nelson to change his mind and let you rent such a great floor.”
He handed her the contract, his tone extra respectful now. “I hope you’ll put in a good word for me with Mr. Nelson.”
Emmy forced a smile and just said she’d gotten lucky.
She signed the paperwork and practically bolted from the building, not daring to look toward the red-and-white fire station next door.
That afternoon, Emmy called up Abriella and headed straight for the biggest mall in the city.
“Abriella, I want to buy your cousin some clothes. Can you help me pick something out?”
Abriella immediately linked arms with her, grinning with that teasing glint in her eyes. “Well, well, looks like our Emmy finally gets it!”
They went straight to Emmy’s go-to luxury menswear store.
The moment they walked in, a sales associate hurried over.
“Ms. Lincoln! Here to pick out something for your boyfriend again? We just got some new arrivals—I can have our models show them to you.”
Abriella jumped in right away. “You’ve got it wrong—it’s not her boyfriend, it’s her husband!”
Just as the sales associate handed them the shopping bags, they heard the doorman at the entrance greet someone. “Sir, Miss, right this way.”
Emmy glanced up on instinct.
And just like that, her mood crashed.
Dean was walking in, Evelina on his arm.
Emmy grabbed the shopping bags and reached for Abriella’s hand. “Let’s go,” she murmured.
“Emmy.”
Dean called after her, quickly catching up and looking down with a cold, warning glare.
“Stop trying to use Mr. Nelson to break me and Eve up. He’s not someone you should mess with.”
Before Emmy could even reply, Abriella bristled and snapped right back.
“Dean, are you serious? What business is it of yours what Emmy does? You arrogant, narcissistic jerk!”

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
