The gala wrapped up late, and night had already settled in. Emmy had indulged in a few glasses of champagne, and now the buzz was hitting her hard. Her head felt heavy, the room almost spinning, and with a whole day of travel behind her, she barely had enough energy left to kick off her shoes before collapsing into the softness of the hotel bed.
Her phone buzzed on the nightstand, the screen lighting up for a second. Emmy blinked, barely opening her eyes, but she just couldn’t bring herself to reach for it. Whatever it was, it could wait until tomorrow. She rolled over, hugged the comforter close, and drifted off before she could think another thought.
…
Halfway across the world, the sun was still shining. James sat on the sofa, phone in hand, staring at the screen as it lit up and faded, over and over. He kept checking the chat, but the message he’d sent felt like it had disappeared into thin air. No response, just silence.
His frown deepened. Was she still upset with him?
Teresa came in with a cup of coffee. “Any word from Emmy?”
James slipped his phone back into his pocket. “It’s the middle of the night in her time zone. She’s probably asleep by now.”
Teresa thought for a moment. “The time difference is nearly twenty hours. If she’s sleeping, let her rest. Tomorrow, after she’s done with the award ceremony, we should have Dean in custody. We can tell her then, it won’t be too late.”
James nodded, just a small motion.
Andrew walked over, his voice calm and steady. “Let’s hope it all goes smoothly. Once Dean’s out of the picture, Emmy can finally be safe.”
“Mom, Uncle Andrew, don’t worry. Major General Carlos in Fiji is handling the operation himself. Dean won’t get away this time.”
James had been closing in on Dean for weeks, shrinking his territory until all he had left was one private island. He had gathered enough evidence to expose Dean’s illegal businesses, his money laundering, and the way he used violence to stay on top. Some of Dean’s actions had already started to hurt Fiji’s reputation as a tourist paradise.
When James handed everything over to Major General Carlos, there wasn’t much more to say. Carlos signed the international arrest warrant on the spot and worked out an agreement with the US military for extradition and legal cooperation. This time, the net was tight, and Dean had nowhere left to run.
She tossed aside the covers and got out of bed, went through her morning routine, washed up, and got dressed. For the award ceremony, the stylist had chosen a crisp white suit dress that hugged her figure just right. Her hair, now long enough to cover her ears, was pulled back, showing off her graceful neck. Her makeup was light and natural, with just a hint of red on her lips for confidence.
When everything was ready, Emmy stood in front of the mirror, taking it all in. The woman staring back at her looked healthy, cheeks glowing, eyes bright. Maybe it was all that time on the island, maybe it was the regular exercise, but her figure had filled out a bit, shoulders and arms taking on a gentle strength. She looked vibrant, full of energy, truly alive.
Her thoughts drifted to her past life. After she’d gotten married, she’d started trying for a baby right away, pouring all her energy into that family, never once slowing down to take care of herself. Emmy reached up, softly touching her warm cheek.
She remembered hearing older women say you could always tell if a woman married well just by looking at her face. If you married the wrong person, it would drain you. If you married the right one, it would nourish you.
Looking at herself now, Emmy couldn’t help but wonder.
Maybe, just maybe, she’d finally chosen right.

chapter 1251 has no wording, just the chapter number...
What I was dreading the most just happened, I think I need to move on from this story and read something else. This story is breaking my heart....

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
Really, why is there always some home wrecker added to these stories? I always enjoyed reading this until now. Had to go and ruin a beautiful love story....
