Back at the hotel suite, Emmy stepped inside and immediately reached for her phone, about to call James. Before she could dial, her phone started buzzing. “Mom” lit up on the screen. She answered in a hurry. “Hi, Mom.”
Teresa’s voice was warm and upbeat. “Emmy, are you done over there? When are you coming back?”
“It’s done, but...” Emmy trailed off, searching for the right words.
“But what? Did something happen?” her mom pressed.
“No, nothing bad,” Emmy said quickly. “Actually, something good. I just met a Harvard PhD, a neuroscience expert. He asked me to join his research group as a technical consultant. He said he’d help me learn neuroscience and even introduce me to Dr. Hopkins.”
She rattled it all off in one breath, then held it, waiting. Would her mom be disappointed? Would she scold her for not coming home, especially after everything Emmy had just survived?
There was a brief pause on the other end. Then Teresa’s voice came back, bubbling with excitement. “Harvard? Dr. Hopkins? Emmy, you’re amazing. I’m so proud of you. If Dr. Hopkins notices you, you might get straight into their PhD program. This is fantastic news. I need to tell your mentor right away!”
Emmy had no memory of her mentor, but her mom always reminded her that she was Dr. Pepper’s student and apprentice. She just murmured her agreement.
“Actually, never mind,” Teresa said, suddenly decisive. “I’ll tell your mentor myself.” She paused, her voice turning serious. “Emmy, until your memory comes back, don’t try to contact anyone from that missing period in your life. It might mess with your recovery. Since you’ve got this opportunity at Harvard, focus on that. Maybe while you’re studying neuroscience, you’ll find a way to get your memory back. This is good for you, and good for your work.”
Her mom’s words felt like a shot of confidence. Emmy’s thirst for knowledge started to drown out the anxiety in her chest.
“Okay. I’ll stay here for now.”
Teresa laughed softly. “Then we won’t wait up for you. Our flight home is tomorrow morning. Don’t forget to tell your husband, so he doesn’t keep waiting.”
Emmy stayed calm. “Who developed this prosthesis?”
To release something this advanced, it had to be a powerhouse.
Danny hesitated, glancing at her. Emmy’s voice was cool. “Just say it.”
He looked down. “Nelson Corporation.”
Emmy’s eyebrows lifted, a flash of surprise crossing her face. But she quickly realized this made perfect sense. In the whole country, only Nelson Corporation had the resources and brains to outdo Sync on every level.

Hopefully Emmy is level headed like she normally is and they can get past this. I'm praying!...
OMG! How can this be happening! If there is an issue in a marriage shouldn't it be talked through instead of someone believing rumors?...
