Kai's POV
The last golden firework faded into the black, leaving only the light of the stars. I had stepped closer to her on the balcony, the space between us almost gone.
I watched her face, lit by the soft moonlight. The guarded look in her eyes had been replaced by a quiet sense of wonder.
She finally turned from the valley to look at me, her expression something I couldn't quite read.
"That was…" she began, her voice quiet. "A bit much, don't you think?"
A slow smile touched my lips. "There is no such thing as ‘too much' when you're making a point."
"And what point were you trying to make?" she asked, her eyes sharp, analytical again.
"That you deserve grand gestures," I said, my voice low and serious. "You deserve to have the sky itself remade for you. After eighteen years of being treated like you were invisible, I wanted you to see what it looks like when someone finally sees you."
The mention of her past made the walls in her eyes slam back into place. She went cold, her posture rigid.
"My past has nothing to do with you," she said, her voice flat.
"This isn't about pity, Valerie," I said, my voice hard as stone. "This is about honor. Their pack broke the most sacred laws of conduct. They abused a member of their own for years. They must be held accountable."
I held her gaze, letting her see the absolute certainty in my eyes.
"So you are going to tell me everything," I commanded. "Every name. Every slight. Every threat. Every single thing they did to you from the day you arrived until the day they threw you out."
I leaned in closer, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
"I want a complete list of their crimes against you. Because I am going to make them pay for every single one."
