Chapter 131
As soon as Nerissa finished speaking, the whole room went dead silent.
Everyone was stunned into silence.
‘Who said Nerissa couldn’t speak Farician?’ someone in the crowd thought, dumbfounded.
‘Seriously? This is what you call not knowing Farician?’ another person muttered to themselves.
Her Farician was not just fluent, her accent was so spot-on, it sounded like she was a native. Honestly, she spoke even better than a radio host.
Luna and Anna were completely stunned.
‘Wait, Nerissa can actually speak Farician?’ Luna thought, totally thrown off.
‘Isn’t Nerissa just some nobody from the countryside?’ Anna wondered, her jaw practically hitting the floor.
‘She can barely speak Eglisian, how did she even learn Farician?’ Anna fumed inwardly.
Anna’s face went ghostly pale.
She’d been determined to outshine Nerissa.
But now?
Not only did she fail to outshine Nerissa,
but she ended up making Nerissa the center of attention.
‘Damn it!’ Anna fumed inwardly.
‘Seriously, damn it!’ Anna cursed to herself.
Anna’s eyes wer
Sangatang Macally spitting fire.
Mrs. Andy’s eyes widened in shock. “Miss Sullivan, you… you actually speak Farician?”
“Yes,” Nerissa said, giving a small nod.
Mrs. Andy continued, “Then why did they say you couldn’t?”
By “they,” she was clearly talking about Luna and Anna.
She obviously meant Luna and Anna.
Luna was the first to snap back, flashing a smile. “Arie, you sly thing! If you could speak Farician all along, why keep it a secret? I really thought you didn’t know a word. See what kind of mess this misunderstanding has caused.”
“No need for that,” Nerissa said, sounding totally unfazed and even a little dismissive.
Then, without missing a beat, she stepped forward, took
level Farician that left the whole room stunned. “Bonjours. Andy’s hand, and greeted her in perfect, native-
Madame Andy. I’m Ariel Sullivan-Nerissa Jamison,
too. Thank you for your blessings, and I wish you eternal youth and beauty!”

Anna’s eyes were practically spitting fire.
Mrs. Andy’s eyes widened in shock. “Miss Sullivan, you… you actually speak Farician?”

Luna was no stranger to high society.
With a casual remark, she deftly shifted all the blame onto Nerissa, hinting that Nerissa had been scheming from the start and had set things up to play out exactly like this.
If it had been anyone else, Luna’s words would’ve totally made them lose their cool, panicking on the spot.
But the one standing in front of Luna was Nerissa.
Nerissa just smiled faintly, her dimple showing. “I thought you didn’t even ask if I could speak Farician, just sent Anna to greet Mr. Slime and Mrs. Andy instead. Honestly, I figured you just wanted to embarrass me. Looks like I misunderstood.”
Nerissa’s voice was calm, but her words hit home.
Good thing Nerissa actually knew Farician today.
But what if she didn’t?
If Nerissa hadn’t known Farician, Luna and Anna wouldn’t be the only ones laughing at her, the whole banquet hall would’ve had a field day mocking her.
With just a few well-placed words, Nerissa flipped the whole situation on its head.
Suddenly, everyone in the banquet hall was looking at Luna and Anna differently.
‘Ohhh, so that’s what was going on,’ everyone suddenly realized.
‘So Luna and Anna were actually trying to set Nerissa up to embarrass her at the recognition banquet,’ someone whispered.
“Seriously, how could Luna do that? Nerissa’s her own niece, after all,” someone muttered.
“Come on, it’s simple. Before Nerissa came back, Anna was the Sullivan family’s only heir. Now that Nerissa’s here, Luna’s feeling threatened,” another person chimed in.
“No wonder Nerissa’s the daughter of Hong Kong’s top beauty and Kindowen’s brightest mind. She’s got the looks and the brains. Even though she comes from the countryside, there’s not a single trace of roughness on her,” someone in the crowd whispered, clearly in awe.
Back in the day.
Leo Sullivan was the top scorer in the SAT in Kindowen.
That’s why he was known as the brightest mind in Kindowen.
Charlotte Berenson had even competed in Miss World and won the Alisian regional champion title, which was how she earned her reputation as Minttown’s top beauty.
But in an instant, the whole room’s gossip took a sharp turn.
Hearing the crowd’s chatter, Luna nearly lost her footing. Her beautiful eyes narrowed as she thought, ‘Wow, she’s got a silver tongue. I really underestimated this country bumpkin.
Anna was so pissed she could’ve spat blood.
‘Seriously, a nobody from the sticks speaks better Farician than me?’ Anna fumed inwardly.
‘This is just unbelievable,’ Anna thought, her mind reeling.
‘I’ve been studying Farician since I was eight!’ Anna thought bitterly, unable to believe Nerissa could actually outdo her.
Luna’s smile didn’t waver for a moment, her voice soft and sweet, still putting on that perfect aunt act. “Arie, I really underestimated you. My apologies. I thought Anna could help you out, but I never imagined you’d steal the show like this!”
“Thank you for the praise, Luna. I promise I won’t let you down. I’ll do my best to carry on the Sullivan family’s legacy and take the Sullivan Group to new heights,” Nerissa replied, her tone steady and confident.
Luna was left frustrated, unable to defend herself.
‘Damn that country bumpkin,’ Luna cursed inwardly.
‘Just you wait,’ Luna thought, her eyes narrowing.
“The party’s only just begun,’ Luna told herself, a cold glint in her eyes.
‘Nerissa’s real embarrassment is still on the way,’ Luna thought, a cruel smile tugging at her lips.
Mr. Slime turned to Nerissa, his curiosity piqued. “Miss Jamison, your Farician is so flawless, you sound just like a native. Did you ever live in Faric?”
“No, I’ve never been to Faric, but I really do love it,” Nerissa replied.
“You’ve never been to Faric?” Mr. Slime looked even more amazed. “Miss Jamison, am I hearing this right? You’ve never even visited, and yet your Farician is this good?”
“That’s right, you heard me correctly. I picked it up by watching TV and reading books on my own,” Nerissa said with a calm smile.
Mr. Slime’s eyes shone with admiration. “You truly are worthy of the Sullivan family name!”
“Thank you, but you’re too kind,” Nerissa replied, her voice gracious and steady, unfazed by Mr. Slime’s praise.
In the midst of the bustling banquet hall, she stood tall and serene, like an island of calm, untouched by all the chaos around her.
Frederick Berenson and Chloe Berenson stood off to the side, just watching everything play out.
They’d been ready to step up for their niece if she needed it.

But she was totally wrong.
Turns out, their niece didn’t need anyone to fight her battles.

Frederick Berenson’s eyes shone with pride. “Arie’s incredible! She’s got guts! No wonder she’s got that Berenson blood, she’s got our spirit!”
As her uncle, Frederick Berenson couldn’t be happier.
Chloe smiled. “With Leo as her dad and Charlotte as her mom, Arie was destined to be a force to be reckoned with!”
‘Like father, like daughter, tigers breed tigers,’ Chloe thought, her smile growing wider.
Frederick nodded. “You’re absolutely right, Chloe. Arie’s just our little tiger.”
‘Our adorable little tiger, Frederick thought, his smile full of pride.
Chloe chimed in, “Luna was acting so shameless. She’s supposed to be Arie’s aunt, but instead of protecting her, she joined in with the bullies! Luckily, Arie’s no easy target!”
She saw the whole thing go down herself.
Luna didn’t get even the slightest edge, instead, she got completely outplayed by Nerissa.
Frederick’s face darkened at the mention of Luna. “She’s just someone who married out of the family. No matter how much she tries to meddle, she can’t cause any real waves. Besides, Arie has us in her corner. If she ever tries to mess with Arie, I’ll be the first to step in!”
No matter what, Nerissa always had the Berenson family standing behind her.
She always had their support.
They were her confidence, her backbone.
Ten minutes later, as Mrs. Sullivan stepped into the banquet hall, Mrs. Andy made a beeline for her.
“Mrs. Sullivan, your granddaughter Arie is incredible! She’s got that same boldness you had when you were young. Mr. Slime and I both absolutely adore her,” Mrs. Andy gushed.
Mrs. Andy never bothered to hide her feelings, she couldn’t stop singing Nerissa’s praises, and the best part was, their admiration was totally genuine.
Modern people are blunt by nature.
If they like you, they’ll say it straight up. If they don’t, they won’t sugarcoat it. Offending people? Not their
concern.
Mrs. Sullivan was genuinely surprised. Both Mr. Slime and Mrs. Andy had sky-high standards, getting on their good side was no walk in the park.

She really hadn’t seen this coming.
She’d only stepped out for a few minutes, and her granddaughter had already won over Mr. Slime and Mrs. Andy.
After chatting with Mrs. Andy for a bit, Mrs. Sullivan headed back to the entrance to greet the guests.
She went right up to Nerissa, beaming. “Arie, Mrs. Andy was just raving about you! My little Arie, you really blew them away, even Mr. Slime and Mrs. Andy couldn’t stop praising you.”
Anna was just standing off to the side.
Hearing that, Anna’s features twisted with envy.
‘I’m right here, and Mrs. Sullivan doesn’t even see me. She goes straight to Nerissa,’ Anna fumed inwardly.
‘What a joke, Anna thought, her jealousy flaring up even more.
‘Guess she’s already forgotten I’m her granddaughter too,’ Anna thought bitterly.
Just then, the assistant butler walked in. “Miss Jamison, there’s someone at the door who says they’re your friend and wants to see you!”
Nerissa paused, a little confused.
She frowned slightly, not sure who it could be.
‘A friend?’ Nerissa wondered.
‘Who is it?’ she thought, trying to recall anyone who might show up.
She didn’t have many friends in Aosthorne, and Faye couldn’t make it because of family stuff, so she hadn’t even sent her an invitation.
‘But besides Faye, who else could it be?’ Nerissa wondered, still puzzled.
Anna narrowed her eyes. ‘Nerissa’s friend?’
‘Seriously, what kind of decent friends could a country bumpkin like Nerissa even have?’ Anna scoffed to herself.
‘Probably just another bumpkin, same as her, Anna thought, rolling her eyes.
‘Bet it’s some super rural hick who couldn’t be more old-fashioned,’ Anna sneered inwardly.
‘Figures, birds of a feather, right?’ Anna thought, her lips curling in disdain.
Anna didn’t even need to guess, Nerissa’s so-called friend was probably just another hick like her, couldn’t even afford a proper gift, and would only show up to embarrass herself in front of everyone!
Thinking of this, Anna quickly called out, “Clive, if they’re Arie’s friend, that means they’re a VIP for the
Sullivan family. Hurry up and bring our honored guest in!”
