Chapter 19 Finding Nerissa
Everything happened so suddenly.
Even though Riley was mentally prepared, she never expected Lennox to actually faint.
Lennox had always been healthy, but now he suddenly collapsed to the ground, unconscious. Riley’s tears spilled out instantly, her eyes red as she cried, “Lennox, are you okay? Lennox, please wake up.”
But no matter how much Riley called out, Lennox didn’t respond at all.
Riley looked at Luke, crying, “Luke, don’t tell me I accidentally poisoned Lennox?”
‘I shouldn’t have cooked for Lennox, Riley thought helplessly.
“No, Mom, don’t say that. You stay with Lennox, I’ll call 911,” Luke said, forcing himself to stay calm as he dialed emergency.
About ten minutes later, the paramedics arrived.
After a quick assessment, they rushed Lennox into surgery.
Luke and Riley waited anxiously outside the operating room, their hearts pounding.
Riley paced nervously, praying to God for a miracle, then turned to Luke. “Luke, you have to contact Nerissa right now.
“Since she diagnosed Lennox with qi and yin depletion syndrome and said he would faint before 9 p.m., she has to know how to save him.”
“Mom, what if Lennox didn’t faint because of depletion? Don’t jump to conclusions yet. Let’s wait for the doctor to come out,” Luke replied, still struggling to believe Nerissa’s words.
He thought Lennox’s collapse was just a coincidence.
Nerissa looked no older than seventeen or eighteen.
Levi was a respected, authoritative healer; anyone could tell who was trustworthy and who wasn’t.
Just then, the surgery room door opened.
A masked doctor walked out.
Riley and Luke rushed over. “Doctor, how is Lennox?”
The doctor removed his mask. “The patient’s condition is very complicated. It’s a severe case of depletion. Because treatment was delayed, the entire lung has sustained heavy damage.
“You need to prepare yourselves mentally.”
‘Prepare ourselves mentally? What?’ Riley felt like the sky was falling. ‘How could this be?’
Luke staggered backward, his face turning pale. ‘It really is depletion, just like Nerissa said. What now?’ he wondered.
He looked utterly drained.
Riley grabbed the doctor’s hand desperately. “Please, Doctor, you have to save Lennox. He’s my only brother.”
The doctor sighed, “Now, all we can do is hope for a miracle.”
Riley cried so hard she nearly fainted. After the doctor left, she glared at Luke with fury. “This is all your fault. I told you to contact Nerissa and bring her here, but you ignored me.
“Luke, if anything happens to Lennox tonight, I will never forgive you.”/
Lukę panicked. “Mom, I-I’m already trying to find Nerissa’s contact information.”
No one knew how deeply he regretted it.
He regretted throwing away the note Nerissa gave him. Even more, he regretted rejecting her kindness so harshly.
If he could turn back time, he would have treated Nerissa like a guest of honor.
“What? You didn’t even keep her contact info?” Riley snapped, slapping Luke’s face hard. “You idiot.
“I’ve told you before. You should always keep a backup plan. What did you do instead?”
Luke was overwhelmed with guilt. He couldn’t admit that not only did he fall to save Nerissa’s contact, but he also seriously offended her.
He could only hope Nerissa wouldn’t take offen Successfully unlocked!
When Ethan Merritt arrived at the surgery room’s entrance, he saw ins wire iuriously hitting their son. He hurried over to intervene. “Riley, calm down

“What’s going on here? Has Lennox come out yet?”
“A good father ruins a spoiled child. He’s like this because you’ve spoiled him,” Riley snapped, swinging at Ethan too.
Ethan didn’t dare resist. While taking the blows, he glanced at Luke and quietly asked, “Luke, what’s really going on here?”
Luke’s expression was gloomy. “Dad, this is definitely my fault.”
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Luke quickly tried to soothe his wife. “Riley, hitting us won’t solve anything. Please calm down. Let’s figure out a way together.”
At that moment, Luke’s phone rang. He grabbed it eagerly and said, “Hey, Isaiah, did you find Nerissa?”
Riley lowered her raised hand and listened hopefully to the reply.
In today’s digital age, with full surveillance footage, finding Nerissa’s identity wasn’t difficult. Isaiah’s voice soon came through the phone. “Got it.
“The girl you encountered at the entrance is Nerissa. I’ve just sent Ms. Jamison’s address and phone number to your WhatsApp.”
“Okay, got it,” Luke said, hanging up immediately. He turned to Riley. “Mom, you and Dad stay here at the hospital. I’m going to get Ms. Jamison right away.”
“Go quickly,” Riley pushed him toward the door. “Even if you have to beg her, you’d better bring her back.”
Right now, Nerissa was Lennox’s only hope.
“I know, Mom. I’ll bring Ms. Jamison back, no matter what,” Luke said, tears welling up.
A man rarely shed tears easily; only when the pain ran too deep.
At this moment, Luke was truly terrified. He feared that his momentary lapse in judgment might cost Lennox his life.
After Luke left, Ethan got the full update on Lennox’s condition from his wife.
He patted her shoulder. “Don’t worry. Lennox’s lucky. Luke will definitely bring Ms Jamison back.”
He added, “By the way, should we tell your mom about this?”
Lennox was in a critical state.
Ethan worried that telling Hannah might upset her.
But if they didn’t tell Hannah and something happened to Lennox, that would be even worse.
Ethan felt torn.
“No way,” Riley immediately rejected. “Mom’s still in the hospital. She can’t find out about this. It would only make things worse.”
Things were already chaotic enough. If their mother found out, it wouldn’t solve anything. In fact, it could make the situation far worse.
Besides, Hannah was getting old. If she couldn’t handle the shock, the consequences could be disastrous.
Ethan nodded. “Alright, I’ll trust you on this.”
Luke floored the gas pedal, running several red lights along the way, racing to Nerissa’s apartment complex as fast as possible.
Standing at the door, he took a deep breath and finally summoned the courage to knock.
A few seconds later, the door opened.
“Hey, young man, who are you looking for?” Hunter asked, glancing at Luke.
Luke replied respectfully, “Sir, hello. May I ask if Ms. Jamison lives here?”
Hearing that Luke was looking for Nerissa and seeing that he was neatly dressed, not like a troublemaker, Hunter didn’t press further.
Instead, he turned toward the inside of the apartment. “Nerissa, someone’s here to see you.”
“I’m coming,” Nerissa said as she stepped out.
Seeing Nerissa, Luke felt a surge of hope and spoke excitedly, “Ms. Jamison.”
Compared to Luke’s excitement, Nerissa was completely calm. She glanced at him and said, “Wait here for two minutes.”
Though he didn’t understand why Nerissa wanted him to wait, Luke obediently nodded. “Okay.”
Hunter smiled. “Sir, you can come in and have a seat while you wait.”

“Thanks, sir,” Luke said, but he had no mood to sit inside. “I’ll just wait for Ms. Jamison right here.”
Two minutes passed.
Nerissa came out carrying a medical kit. She greeted Hunter, saying she needed to go out for a moment, then looked at Luke. “Let’s go.”
Luke froze, a little taken aback.
Nerissa got straight to the point. “The longer you hesitate, the more danger Lennox is in.”
Snapping back to reality, Luke quickly followed her out, asking as they walked, “Ms. Jamison, you’re not mad at me, are you?”
‘I offended Nerissa so badly, Luke thought. ‘Anyone else would have a hard time forgiving me. Collapsing here and apologizing might be the least of my worries.’
He braced himself for Nerissa to snap at him, but she didn’t seem to care at all.
Not only did she avoid sarcasm or harsh words, but she also didn’t say much of anything.
‘I was too narrow-minded. I shouldn’t have judged her like that, Luke reflected.
Thinking about how he’d treated Nerissa earlier that day, guilt washed over his face, and he wished he could just disappear.
