Chapter 24 Going All Out
For Clive, even though Nerissa was young, her skills were definitely real.
She wouldn’t lie to him.
So, he believed Nerissa.
He also believed she could fill the funding gap within ten days.
Ivan shook his head, a look of helplessness spreading across his face. “Clive, if you don’t listen to my advice, you’ll really regret it.”
‘Choosing to go all-in when you still have a chance to stay safe?’ Ivan wondered. ‘Even a fool could see Clive would regret it If this fails, Clive wouldn’t even have a place to live.’
“Don’t worry,” Clive smiled, “I won’t regret it. Ms. Jamison won’t lie to me. Maybe in a few days, she’ll finish securing the funds for Kinsbeat Game.”
Someone like Nerissa would never break her word.
Ivan sighed, wanting to say more but unsure what else to add. After all, he had already said everything he could.
But Clive just wouldn’t hear it.
Clive not only refused to listen, but he was also way too optimistic about the whole thing.
Compared to the Calloway Group, anyone with a bit of investment sense wouldn’t put money into Kinsbeat Game.
Ivan wondered, ‘Ms. Jamison would have to be crazy to invest in it. What is this if not throwing money down the drain? So, I’ m sure she is a scam.’
Yet Clive trusted Nerissa wholeheartedly.

Nerissa had gotten into the habit of waking up early to work out these past few days.
After her exercise, she came home and saw Hunter had bought a bunch of fancy gifts piled on the table, with gift bags beside them.
She asked, puzzled, “Grandpa, why did you buy so many things?”
Hunter grinned, “The new enrollment season at Yiorlian School is about to start. Our boss, Kane Trelawney, said he has relatives who know teachers at Yiorlian School.
“For a little money, they can help get you in. So I plan to go visit his relatives with Mr. Trelawney after work at noon.”
Since they were going to visit in person, it was only natural to bring gifts and red envelopes.
That’s the basic two-step when asking for a favor.
Nerissa frowned slightly. “Grandpa, you don’t have to waste money like this. I can get into Yiorlian School on my own merit.”
No matter when or where, she had never considered taking shortcuts.
Hunter laughed and waved his hand, thinking Nerissa just cared about money. “It’s fine, Nerissa. Money’s made to be spent. I can still earn more.”
From Hunter’s point of view, Nerissa was smart in school, but she had already taken a year off and hadn’t attended classes. The transfer exam at Yiorlian School was less than a month away.
If Nerissa took the exam now, she probably wouldn’t do well, and it wouldn’t be fair to her.
Besides, if Nerissa could get into the best high school and receive the best education, spending some money was nothing.
“Grandpa, trust me. I will get into Yiorlian School,” Nerissa said seriously. “If I don’t get in on my own merit, I’d rather not go at all.”
“Nerissa, enough,” said Hunter.
She looked at Hunter firmly. “Grandpa, I’m serious. I’m not joking. You can’t try to pull strings. It’s not fair to the other students.”
Seeing how serious Nerissa was, Hunter sighed
Putting it another way, Nerissa was smart eno
helplessly and gave up on the idea of bringing gifts.
Successfully unlocked! into Yiorlian School right away, she could still
get into other high schools and eventually get red university
“All right, I’ll listen to you then,” said Hunter.

After breakfast, when Hunter headed to work, he immediately told his boss about Nerissa’s stance.
“Mr. Trelawney, I’m feally sorry, but my granddaughter is too stubborn. She absolutely refuses to use connections to get into Yiorlian School, so let’s not bother with that anymore, sald Hunter.
“Refuse to use connections?” Kane looked surprised as he glanced at Hunter. “So she wants to get in on her own merit?” “Yes,” Hunter scratched his head and smiled, “Actually, she was doing well in school before, but she’s fallen behind a bit over the past year.”
Kane’s expression grew complicated as he looked at Hunter. “Even if she was good at studying, getting into Yiorlian School is pretty tough.
“My son ranked in the top 15 in his grade during the entrance exam, and he still didn’t get in. We had to call in favors from relatives. I don’t think your Nerissa stands much of a chance going in solely on merit.”
Yiorlian School was the best high school in Aosthorne.
They only accepted twenty transfer students each year, while thousands applied.
That showed how fiercely competitive it was.
Hunter stayed optimistic. “It’s okay. Even if she can’t get into Yiorlian School, going to another high school still leads to college.”
Kane glanced at Hunter, thinking the old man from the slums was way too optimistic. He chuckled and asked, “By the way, I haven’t asked. How old is your Nerissa this year?”
“Nineteen,” Hunter replied.
Kane frowned slightly and couldn’t help but say, “Nineteen already? Why is she still in school? Girls don’t need to level up their education or charm as boys do.
“I think she should find a job soon and ease your burden. Girls are going to get married anyway. At her age, why spend money on school?”
In many people’s minds, once a girl got married, she belonged to another family.
So, no matter how much she studied, it was pointless.
Even Kane, who had a higher education, couldn’t escape that mindset.
At home, Kane ignored his daughter’s studies but paid special attention to his average-performing son, signing him up for many tutoring classes.
Hunter said, “Mr. Trelawney, that’s not right. Nowadays, men and women are equal. Girls need to study more because education opens doors.
“Besides, Nerissa is a good granddaughter. She told me that when she makes big money, she’ll buy me a huge villa to live in.” At the end, Hunter’s face was full of pride, as if daring everyone to know how devoted his Nerissa was.
Even if the villa hadn’t been bought yet, the intention was already impressive enough.
In Hunter’s eyes, Nerissa was the best Nerissa in the whole world.
‘Buy a villa? Who doesn’t talk big?’ Kane wondered.
Kane laughed, “My son said he’d buy me a private estate. Girls just don’t have the same earning power as boys. My son might not even afford a villa one day, let alone Nerissa.”
‘What did he mean, his son might not even afford a villa, let alone Nerissa? How did Kane know Nerissa was less capable than Kane’s son?’ Hunter wondered.
Hunter was a bit annoyed but didn’t want to argue with his boss. He just said, “Mr. Trelawney, enough talk. I’ve got to get to work,”
Watching Hunter’s retreating back, Kane sneered, “This old stubborn fool, how does someone with so much pride end up as a janitor?”
‘What kind of good girl could a slum-dwelling old man like him raise?’ Kane sneered inwardly.
He was certain Nerissa would never get into Yiorlian School or a good university in her lifetime.

In the blink of an eye, five days had passed.
After breakfast, Nerissa spent some time working on data programming at home, then checked the earnings in her account on her phone.

Chapter 24 Going All Out
Her balance had jumped from seven digits to nine digits.
For most people, that would be a staggering amount, but for Nerissa, it was just a small milestone, just enough to fund
Kinsbeat Game.
Meanwhile, Ivan was having dinner with Clive.
Ivan said, “Clive, think carefully again about that deal I mentioned a few days ago. Actually, there are quite a few game companies willing to take over Kinsbeat Game right now.”
Ivan still hoped Clive would sell off Kinsbeat Game soon. While the project was still valuable, Clive could leverage his past experience to make a comeback.
Clive took a sip of wine. “Ivan, I told you, I believe in Ms. Jamison.”
“It’s already been eight days, and your Ms. Jamison still hasn’t secured the funds. Why don’t you call her and ask what’s going on?” Ivan suggested.
“Sure.” Clive pulled out his phone. “That way you won’t keep worrying that Ms. Jamison is a scam.”
Clive dialed Nerissa’s number.
It rang once.
There was no answer.
The second and third calls went unanswered as well.
That was a bit suspicious.
Ivan glanced at Clive, frowning slightly. “Clive, what if Ms. Jamison ran off with the data?”
The AAA game of Kinsbeat Game was already one-third complete, and since few domestic companies could develop AAA games, that one-third of the data alone could fetch a high price.
That was why many companies were eager to take over Kinsbeat Game.
“No way,” Clive said calmly. “Ms. Jamison isn’t that kind of person. She’s probably just busy. I’ll call again.”
Just as Clive dialed the fourth time, a new call came in.
It was the company’s finance department.
Clive frowned slightly. No need to guess, it was definitely a call demanding payment.
Without the funds, many projects couldn’t move forward.
Clive sighed.
Though he didn’t want to hear it, Clive answered. “Hello, Lucia. I’ll solve the funding issue as soon as possible. Please try to hold off a little longer on your end.”
Lucia’s voice came through.
When Clive heard what she said, he stood up abruptly, unable to control his emotions. Excited, he said, “What? Lucia, say that again.”
After making sure he heard correctly, Clive continued, “Okay. Got it. That’s fine for now.”
He hung up but still felt unreal.
It was 30 million.
Nerissa had actually wired 30 million to him.
Clive grabbed his glass and downed it in one gulp, the spicy, biting burn spreading immediately through his mouth.
Only then did he allow himself to believe he wasn’t dreaming. He/set down the glass and laughed loudly, looking up at the sky.
Life’s pleasures must be seized while one could.
He knew that Nerissa wasn’t a fraud.
Clive looked so strange after the call.
Ivan figured the call must have been the company informing him that Nerissa had fled with the data, which was why Clive was mentally shaken and off balance.
Ivan quickly put down his fork and comforted him. “Clive, don’t be too hard on yourself. Learn from this and don’t take the same path again.
