Chapter 34 Trash
Owen had deliberately leaked the news about partnering with Stratford Group. He’d stayed up all night rehearsing his collaboration speech, memorizing every word so he could shine in front of the cameras.
He never imagined he’d end up shooting himself in the foot.
Now, it was public humiliation, plain and simple.
Losing to a competitor would’ve been one thing, but he was losing to some nobody company that couldn’t even compare to Calloway Group.
Standing in front of the reporters’ cameras, Owen wanted nothing more than to disappear into the ground. His face flushed red, then paled, then flushed red again.
A reporter in the front row pressed on. “Mr. Calloway, could you say something? Why are you staying silent? Did something go wrong with the partnership?”
Owen’s face burned with shame, and Wade fought his way through the crowd to stand in front of him, blocking the
cameras.
Wade said, “Sorry everyone, but Mr. Calloway isn’t feeling well today, so he can’t do interviews right now. We’ll give you a proper interview when we win the Celestial Dome Awards.”
The Stratford Group partnership was just a fluke, an accident.
But the Celestial Dome Awards were different. It was chosen by actual gamers, real people voting for the best games.
A company like Kinsbeat Game wouldn’t even make the rankings, let alone win an award.
The Celestial Dome Awards were just as good as the Calloway Group’s. That prize already had their name on it.
The female reporter standing in front of Wade wanted to ask more questions, but suddenly someone in the crowd shouted, “Mr. Beaumont’s coming out. It’s Mr. Beaumont and Mr. Langley from Kinsbeat Game.”
Before the reporter interviewing Owen could process what was happening, her colleagues swarmed forward and shoved their microphones toward Clive. “Mr. Beaumont, Mr. Langley, we heard your company secured the partnership with Stratford Group. Can you confirm if this is true?”
The reporter stood there completely confused. ‘Wait, the insider info said Calloway Group got the Stratford partnership, she thought. ‘How did it suddenly become Kinsbeat Game? And wasn’t Kinsbeat Game about to go bankrupt?’
Right then, one of her coworkers rushed over from the side. “What are you standing around for? Go interview Mr. Beaumont and Mr. Langley and get the scoop! The office just sent a message saying Kinsbeat Game landed the deal with Stratford Group.”
‘What? Holy shit, is Kinsbeat Game actually making a comeback?’ the reporter thought.
“Are you serious?” she asked out loud.
“What do you mean am I serious? Get over there and grab the story before it’s too late!” Her colleague gave her a push.
The reporter quickly raised her microphone and frantically pushed her way through the crowd.
Clive stood in front of the cameras and smiled as he answered the reporters’ questions. “It’s true, and honestly, I’m just as surprised as you are.”
“Mr. Beaumont, do you have anything to say about Mr. Swynford’s departure?” one of the reporters asked.
Wade’s departure from Kinsbeat Game was already major news, and now Kinsbeat Game had secured the Stratford Group partnership without him. With questions like these circulating, this story was bound to blow up.
Clive thought of Nerissa and how she always stayed calm no matter what happened, so he didn’t badmouth Wade in front of the media.
Instead, he said calmly, “I don’t have much to say about that. People have their own paths to follow. I hope Mr. Swynford does well at Calloway Group and achieves all his goals.”
Owen watched Clive standing in the spotlight, soaking up all the attention that should have been his, and his face went pale with rage.
‘Just wait, Owen thought. ‘I’m going to pay back this humiliation a thousand times over.”
Once they were in the car, Wade spoke first. “M Successfully unlocked! is going on? Why would Mr. Stratford suddenly choose to partner with Kinsbeat Gam
Their proposal was so much better than Kinsbeat Game’s-it didn’t even compare.

‘Or did Kinsbeat Game actually bring in some gaming genius who’s better than me? Wade thought, and panic started to: creep in.
Owen forced himself to calm down. “Don’t worry. Kinsbeat Game won’t be celebrating for long Two weeks. Give me two weeks, and I’ll acquire Kinsbeat Game outright.”
In Owen’s mind, this was all just Nerissa playing hard to get.
But he’d been ignoring her this whole time, so she’d crack soon enough.
When that happened, Kinsbeat Game would fall right into his hands.
He pictured Clive and Bernard on their knees begging him when he took over Kinsbeat Game, and the thought made him feel a whole lot better.
Wade looked over at Owen with a skeptical expression. “Mr. Calloway, Kinsbeat Game already partnered with Stratford Group, and now you want to acquire them? That’s not gonna be easy.”
Kinsbeat Game was no longer the cash-strapped company it once was.
They resolved their funding issues and secured a partnership with Stratford Group, which was a remarkable achievement. Owen’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Nerissa’s the biggest shareholder at Kinsbeat Game now, and I’m the man she loves most. Just wait. Within a week, she’ll come to me with the acquisition agreement herself.”
Wade nodded. “True. Nerissa can’t live without you, and she’d do anything to make you happy.”
He paused for a moment and smiled at Owen. “Then let me congratulate you in advance, Mr. Calloway.”
Once they successfully acquired Kinsbeat Game, Calloway Group would be unstoppable.
Owen’s face lit up with a confident, victorious smile.
Meanwhile, at Stratford Group, Luke walked into Lennox’s office after Clive and Bernard left.
Luke asked, “Lennox, I really thought you’d pick Calloway Group for this partnership, but you went with Kinsbeat Game instead. Wade already left that company, so what kind of proposal could they even come up with?”
Luke had reviewed Calloway Group’s proposal several times, and every time he found something new and impressive in it. He’d been certain this partnership would go to Calloway Group.
But Lennox chose Kinsbeat Game instead.
“Come here,” Lennox said, his tone flat and commanding.
Luke walked over to the desk immediately, and Lennox pulled out a document, handing it to him. “Take a look at this.” Luke took the file, his face still bearing a look of confusion.
Two minutes passed, and his expression shifted from calm to focused, then to shocked, and finally to completely disbelieving as he stared at Lennox. “Lennox, is this the proposal Kinsbeat Game submitted?”
Lennox gave a slight nod.
Luke looked like he’d seen a ghost. “Holy shit. I can’t believe Kinsbeat Game actually pulled off something this impressive. I totally underestimated them.”
If Calloway Group’s proposal had impressed him, then Kinsbeat Game’s proposal absolutely blew his mind.
Calloway Group’s submission didn’t even come close to competing with Kinsbeat Game’s.
Kinsbeat Game’s proposal was at least ten times better than Calloway Group’s.
Luke never would’ve imagined that Kinsbeat Game, a company on the verge of bankruptcy, could turn things around like this. It was utterly unbelievable.
Five minutes ago, he’d been questioning Lennox’s choice.
Five minutes later, he understood it completely, and he knew he would’ve made the exact same call.
Luke leaned forward and asked, “Lennox, who put this together? Was it Clive?”
Lennox shook his head slightly. “No, it was Kinsbeat Game’s new shareholder, Ms. Jamison.”
“Ms. Jamison? Who’s that?” Luke asked.
Right now, Luke hadn’t connected Ms. Jamison with Nerissa at all. in his mind, Nerissa was talented, sure, but she was a doctor-it wasn’t her field.
“I’m not entirely sure who it is,” Lennox said, his voice low and measured.

Luke couldn’t help but be impressed. “This Ms. Jamison must be something else if she managed to outshine Owen. Man, I’ d love to meet her if I ever get the chance.”
Lennox didn’t respond, but his eyes narrowed slightly. Though he remained silent, the powerful aura radiating from him made it impossible to meet his gaze. ‘Could it be her?’ he thought.
He was growing more eager by the minute to work with Kinsbeat Game.

Meanwhile, Clive rushed back to the office and immediately called Nerissa with the good news.
When she heard that Stratford Group had chosen Kinsbeat Game for the partnership, Nerissa’s reaction was remarkably calm compared to Clive’s excitement. “Lennox has good taste,” she said simply.
Clive paused for a moment when he heard the name Lennox, then realized she was talking about Mr. Stratford.
‘That’s Ms. Jamison for you, he thought. ‘Everyone else speaks about Mr. Stratford with such reverence and respect, but not her. No flattery, no fawning-she just calls him by his first name like it’s nothing.’
He sighed inwardly, ‘And the thing is, there’s no arrogance in it either. She just carries herself like she’s meant to shine this bright, like a true boss.’
“Ms. Jamison, are you free for dinner tomorrow?” Clive asked. “One of our shareholders would like to meet you.”
“I can’t tomorrow. I’ve got something to take care of.”
“Of course, Ms. Jamison,” Clive said respectfully. “If you need anything at all, just let me know and I’ll handle it.”
“Will do.”
Right after Clive hung up, Bernard jumped in. “So? So? Did Ms. Jamison say yes to dinner?”
“Nah,” Clive said, running his hand through his hair. “She said she’s got stuff to handle tomorrow.”
Bernard’s face fell, and disappointment washed over him. He’d really thought he’d finally get to meet the legendary Ms. Jamison this time.
Meanwhile, Nerissa was going through her high school textbooks at home.
Sure, she’d been a straight-A student in her past life, but senior year was ages ago now. Some of this material needed a refresher, and she wasn’t entirely sure she could achieve her target score without reviewing it all again.
Hunter knocked on her door. “Nerissa, you still up?”
“Yeah, Grandpa, come in.”
Hunter walked in carrying a plate of cut fruit. “Don’t study too late, okay? Eat some fruit and just relax. If you don’t get into Yiorlian School, we can find another high school. You’ll still get into college either way.”
“Okay, Grandpa.”
The next morning at seven, Nerissa headed to Yiorlian School with her test admission ticket and supplies.
Students were flooding through the school gates at the moment, and the entire entrance was buzzing with activity.
Ivy stepped out of the car and immediately spotted Nerissa standing in the crowd of transfer exam candidates, checking in.
With her hair pulled back in a ponytail, Nerissa stood out from everyone else, and it was impossible not to notice her.
The morning sunlight filtered through the leaves and fell across her face, and even though she was just wearing a simple white shirt, light jeans, and white sneakers, her natural beauty still shone through.
Ivy stared at Nerissa, and jealousy churned in her stomach.
‘Why does she get to have a face like that?’ she thought bitterly. “If I looked like that, I wouldn’t waste it like she does. She married into the Calloway family and couldn’t even hold onto her position. Pathetic.’
She sneered inwardly, ‘Trash will always be trash. She can dress it up all you want. It’ll never be class. Born poor, die poor
“What are you looking at, Ivy?” Winifred had walked ahead but realized Ivy wasn’t following, so she turned back with a puzzled expression.
“Mom, look. Nerissa’s here taking the transfer exam,” Ivy said, pointing in Nerissa’s direction.
Winifred followed Ivy’s gaze, and she remembered how Hunter had sworn up and down that Nerissa could get into Yiorlian School on her own merit.

She let out a sneer and spoke with disdain, “That country bumpkin thinks Yiorlian School is like her village. Does she really believe just anyone can get in here?”
