Chapter 65

Hunter just stood there, staring at Ivy.

His smile slowly faded, and his heart grew colder with every passing second. He opened his mouth, disbelief written all over his face. “Ivy, it’s me, your grandpa. Your dad cut ties with me. Are you going to turn your back on me too?”

In Hunter’s eyes, even though he and Dylan had cut ties, Ivy was still his granddaughter.

She was his flesh and blood.

Seeing that Hunter still dared to pester Ivy, Winifred was furious.

She stepped forward, pointing at Hunter and shouting, “You old fool! Let me make this clear, Dylan goes by Holloway now. He has nothing to do with the Jamison family anymore! And Ivy has nothing to do with you either! You’re not even in our league anymore. Stop shamelessly trying to claim kinship.”

Winifred thought, ‘My daughter is going to marry a billionaire someday!

‘What is this old fool anyway?

‘Just a janitor!’

‘Who does he think he is, calling himself Ivy’s grandpa?’

Hearing her mom, Ivy snapped back to reality. “Mom’s right! Old fool, go look in the mirror. You’re not on our level anymore. So keep your distance, or don’t blame me if things get ugly!”

‘Old fool?’ Hunter thought, his mind spinning.

His eyes widened in shock.

‘My granddaughter… he thought, his heart sinking.

‘Did my own granddaughter just call me that?’

‘Old fool!’

At this moment,

he just knew the bitter irony of it all stung him.

‘How ironic,’ Hunter thought, the feeling cutting deep.

Ivy urgently grabbed Winifred’s arm. “Mom, let’s go. No need to stoop to his level.”

She had several friends from school living in this neighborhood, and she’d die of embarrassment if anyone saw her chatting with a janitor.

That would totally trash her image.

There was no way Ivy would let herself be humiliated like that.

She just wanted to escape this humiliating scene ASAP.

“Let’s go,” Winifred said, quickly following after Ivy.

Watching them walk away, Hunter staggered back a few steps, almost losing his balance.

It was like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over him.

He was frozen to the core.

The son he’d raised for over twenty years turned out to be nothing but an ungrateful brat.

Even his own granddaughter stabbed him in the back.

‘Lucky for me,’ Hunter thought, trying to comfort himself.

‘At least I’ve still got Nerissa.

‘If it wasn’t for her, I’d be all alone and miserable in my old age.

Just thinking about Nerissa made Hunter feel a little better.

Even when Nerissa was at her most rebellious, she’d never snapped at him the way Ivy just did.

Indeed.

‘Ungrateful brats never change’

Meanwhile.

Stratfordland.

Lennox sat in front of his computer, deep in a video conference. He was wearing a black silk shirt, the top button left undone, showing off his striking Adam’s apple. He might have looked relaxed, but his presence was so commanding that the executives on the other side of the screen were practically trembling, and none of them dared to meet his eyes.

After the executives finished their reports, Lennox glanced at the time in the bottom right corner of the screen. He said, “Meeting adjourned.”

Just two words.

But his voice was magnetic, every syllable resonating with authority, a deep, rich tone that could make any voice lover melt.

Even though Lennox had already said the meeting was over, nobody dared to log off just yet.

It wasn’t until Lennox exited the virtual room first,

that the execs finally scrambled to hit “Leave.”

Only then did the executives finally dare to log off.

Lennox picked up his watch from the desk, slipping it onto his wrist as he headed to the balcony.

The watch, worth tens of millions, only amplified the allure unique to a man in his prime.

Lennox stood out on the balcony, looking down over the grounds.

Eighth floor, the tallest building in all of Stratfordland.

From up here, he had a perfect view of the whole place, even spotting Hannah and Riley waiting below.

Luke had left at eight sharp.

It was now exactly half past eight.

After watching for a bit, Lennox turned back inside, heading straight for his bookshelf. He grabbed that notorious guidebook titled How Hardcore Straight Guys Can Win a Girl’s Heart.

He flipped it open to page ten.

Here was what it wrote.

[1. When meeting a girl, make sure you look sharp. Shower, wash your hair, trim your nails and beard, put on fresh clothes, and maybe add a spritz of expensive woodsy cologne. Oh, and whatever you do, never show up in skinny jeans or those tacky driving shoes!]

[2. When hanging out with a girl, pay attention to the little things and always put your best gentlemanly foot forward…]

Lennox couldn’t help but frown as he read this.

‘Cologne? Seriously?’ Lennox thought, a bit unimpressed.

‘Shave?’

“Trim nails?’

‘New clothes?”

‘Is meeting someone supposed to be this much work?’ Lennox grumbled.

‘Is this book for morons or something?’ he thought, rolling his eyes.

‘Is anyone actually dumb enough to follow these rules in real life?’ he scoffed.

Three minutes later, Lennox was standing in front of the bathroom mirror, razor in hand, grumbling to himself as he shaved off the barely-there stubble.

‘All this trouble just to meet a girl?’ he grumbled.

Once he was done, he grabbed the nail clippers and trimmed his nails, even though he’d just done it a couple of days ago.

After that, Lennox headed to his walk-in closet and changed into a crisp, brand-new white shirt.

Meanwhile,

the Rolls-Royce pulled up to Stratfordland.

It was the weekend.

Stratfordland was crowded with visitors.

Luckily, only Stratford family vehicles were allowed past the gates. So even though the place was packed with sightseers, there wasn’t a single traffic jam.

Just then, the high-profile Rolls-Royce sailed through the electronic checkpoint and cruised down the private drive inside the estate, instantly turning heads. Everyone whipped out their phones, snapping pics and gossiping like crazy.

“Whoa, that’s a Rolls-Royce Phantom! And it’s a limited edition, costing 30 million on the official site. That has to be Mr. Stratford’s car!”

“Do you think that’s really Mr. Stratford driving? And check out the girl in the passenger seat. Could she be his girlfriend? No way!”

If that girl in the passenger seat was really Mr. Stratford’s girlfriend, then she totally hit the jackpot!

But then,

some of them started chiming in with objections.

“Girlfriend? No way! I heard Mr. Stratford is a sworn bachelor.”

“Sworn bachelor? Who said so?”

“Mr. Stratford himself! He said it in an interview with a financial paper that he’s never getting married.”

“Sure, Mr. Stratford used to say he was never getting married, but what if he’s finally met the right girl? When you really fall for someone, you’d do anything for them, no limits, just pure spoiling!”

“The right girl? No way, not a chance! Mr. Stratford is at the very top of the financial world. What ordinary girl could ever catch his eye?”

Everyone was losing their minds, arguing about whether the girl riding shotgun was actually Lennox’s girlfriend.

As Luke drove, he explained to Nerissa, “Stratfordland is the first private tourist spot in Cilowesad, and it’s been here for nearly a hundred years. My grandma loves having people around, so about half the place is open to visitors. We usually get six or seven thousand people a day. On holidays, that number can easily double.”

Nerissa just nodded, looking pretty unfazed. “Oh, I see. No wonder there are so many people here.”

Anyone else coming to Stratfordland for the first time would have a hard time keeping their cool.

Even Luke’s closest friends, who’d known him since they were kids, were totally stunned the first time they visited.

They couldn’t help but be amazed by the sheer influence of wealth.

But Nerissa never lost her cool for a second.

And it wasn’t for show.

It was the kind of chill that came from deep inside, totally effortless, not something one could ever fake.

No one else could ever pull it off like she did.

Luke couldn’t help feeling impressed by Nerissa.

Indeed.

‘Ms. Jamison is in a league of her own.’

‘She’s seen it all, and nothing fazes her.’

After cruising through the public side of the estate, they drove for another three minutes and finally rolled up to the private heart of Stratfordland, the part that was totally off-limits to anyone who didn’t belong.

Since this area was exclusive, it was way quieter and more peaceful than the open section, and the vibe and the views here were on a whole different level.

If the public side of Stratfordland was a palace, then the private side was something else entirely.

It was pure paradise, and it felt like stepping into another world.

Heaven on earth.

Here, even the railings and steps lining the path were casually carved from pure white marble.

Even the garden’s streetlights were designer pieces from world-famous luxury brands.

Every inch of this place screamed money, like someone just dumped a fortune to make it all happen.

It was the kind of jaw-dropping scene one would only catch in high-society TV shows. Honestly, even those couldn’t dream up something this extravagant.

At that moment, Hannah and Riley were already standing at the entrance, waiting eagerly for Nerissa to

arrive.

Both of them watched the driveway with anticipation, unable to hide how much they were looking forward to seeing Nerissa.

Both Hannah and Riley perked up as soon as the car appeared in sight.

Riley said excitedly, “She’s here! Mom, look, Ms. Jamison is here!”

Hannah immediately straightened up, her eyes fixed on the approaching car.

Luke hit the brakes.

Soon enough,

The car rolled to a smooth stop in its spot.

Luke jumped out of the driver’s seat and rushed over to open the passenger door for Nerissa. “Ms. Jamison, we’ve arrived.”

“Got it,” Nerissa said, stepping out of the car.

She kept it simple today, light-wash jeans, white sneakers, and a crisp white shirt. Fresh-faced and totally bare of makeup, she radiated youthful energy. Every smile or glance of hers was magnetic, making it impossible not to be drawn in by her natural charm.

Even in basic clothes, she somehow gave off major designer vibes, like she was the one making the outfit look high-end, not the other way around.

Riley rushed over and pulled Nerissa into a warm hug. “Nerissa, welcome to Stratfordland!”

Nerissa smiled. “Thanks, Riley.”

After the hug, Riley grabbed Nerissa’s hand and brought her over to Hannah. “Mom, this is Ms. Nerissa Jamison, the one who brought Lennox back to us. If it weren’t for her, Lennox wouldn’t be here with us today. Nerissa’s not just an incredible doctor. She’s got the sweetest heart. Seriously, she’s the most amazing girl I’ve

ever known.”

Then Riley turned to Nerissa and said, “Nerissa, this is my mother.”

Nerissa felt a bit bashful at Riley’s praise. She turned to Hannah and flashed a gentle smile. “Hello, Mrs. Stratford. I’m Nerissa Jamison.”

When she smiled, those soft dimples showed up on her cheeks, making her look so warm and inviting, like a breath of fresh spring air, the kind of smile one could just get lost in.

Hannah just stood there, staring at Nerissa, totally stunned.
