“Grandpa Kennedy, money’s not an issue. The important thing is that flying is way faster than taking the train. I booked you. a flight at II AM, so you’ll be in Caltara by 1:30 PM,” Nerissa said. Then she added, “Come on, let’s head inside. We need to grab your boarding pass first, and then I’ll walk you to the gate.”
“Alright,” Kennedy nodded.
It was a Monday, so the airport wasn’t too crowded.
After grabbing the boarding pass, Nerissa took Kennedy to check in his luggage.
Kennedy smiled and said, “Nerissa, I don’t have much stuff. I can just carry it on with me.”
He’d already mailed most of his bigger items back home ahead of time.
“I ordered some Aosthorne specialties for you on a delivery app. You can take them back with you,” Nerissa said. She’d originally planned to pick them up at the supermarket herself, but Kennedy was leaving so soon that she had to order them. online instead.
Kennedy looked at Nerissa and said, “Kid, you really went all out. Not only did you get me a plane ticket, but you even bought me some local specialties. How can I ever repay you?”
“It’s nothing, Grandpa Kennedy. You and Grandpa are best friends, so that pretty much makes you my grandpa too. You haven’t been back home for so long. I bet a bunch of people will come see you. You’ll need some goodies to hand out,” Nerissa replied.
Ever since Kennedy married his wife, who was divorced with three kids, he hadn’t set foot in his hometown.
This was his first time going back since he first left.
Hunter nodded in agreement. “Kennedy, Nerissa’s right. When you get back, I’m sure plenty of folks will come see you. Don’t forget to share those treats with everyone back home. Come on, we’re all family!”
Kennedy’s eyes welled up. He opened his mouth a few times, but couldn’t find the words. In the end, he just held Hunter’s hand tight, not letting go.
After checking in his luggage, Nerissa walked Kennedy to the gate and explained how security and boarding worked. “Grandpa Kennedy, there’s a business lounge just for you. If you can’t find it, just ask the staff with your ticket. And everything in the lounge is free, so grab whatever you like.”
“And once you’re in first class, if you want anything to eat or drink, just ask the flight attendant, and it’s all free. First-class tickets cost way more than regular ones, so don’t let the airline save money on you,” she told him with a grin.
“Also, the AC on the plane can get pretty cold. If you feel cold, just ask the flight attendant for a blanket. Blankets are free, too,” she reminded him.
“After you land, if you can’t find the baggage carousel, just ask the airport staff for help,” she said finally,
Nerissa explained everything patiently, making sure Kennedy knew it was all free, since it was his first time flying.
Older folks always thought food on trains and planes was way to expensive, so they’d rather go hungry than buy anything
on board.
Nerissa was so patient.
Her voice was really nice, too.

Kennedy listened intently, his nose stinging. When he spoke again, tears started to fall. “Alright, Nerissa, I’ll remember everything you said.”
Even if she were his real granddaughter, she probably couldn’t have done any more than this.
Once everything was settled, Nerissa glanced at the clock, and it was getting late. She waved him off. “Goodbye, Grandpa Kennedy.”
“Alright,” Kennedy replied, tears streaming down his cheeks. “Goodbye, Nerissa. Goodbye, Hunter. Once I’m settled back home, I’ll come visit you both!”
Hunter was so choked up that he could barely get the words out. Kennedy, safe travels. Call me when you land.”
He and Kennedy had been friends for three years.
During those three years, they’d always had each other’s backs. Even though they weren’t family, they were closer than most real brothers.
Nerissa handed her grandfather a tissue. “Grandpa, don’t cry. Grandpa Kennedy’s finally heading home to enjoy his golden years. After I finish my SATs, I’ll take you to Caltara to visit him,” Nerissa said gently.
Hunter looked at her, his eyes hopeful. “Really?”
“Of course!” Nerissa nodded with a bright smile. “We’ll fly there together!”
“Alright!” Hunter wiped his tears, feeling much better after hearing his granddaughter’s promise.
After they got back to the apartment, Hunter took a quick break it home, then changed into his uniform vest and headed out to work.
Only then did Nerissa finally have a moment to pick up her phone, log into WhatsApp, and scroll through her feed.
She didn’t have many contacts online.
So…
Seeing all that snow ove abroad, Nerissa felt a pang of envy. She just come back from a walk outside and was practically melting in the heat.
Nerissa hit like on Lennox’s post.
She dropped a comment. [Awesome view.]
After scrolling through her Instagram, Nerissa logged into Splenor Peak and jumped straight into Adventure Manor. As soon as she entered, she was surprised to see that Mr. S had once again left her an endgame puzzle.
It was one of those S level endgame puzzles, brutally hard.
‘Perfect, Nerissa thought to herself.
She loved high-difficulty endgame puzzles.
Nerissa raised her eyebrows.
‘Looks like I’ve finally met my match!’ Nerissa thought, excitement bubbling up inside her.
Now this is getting really fun!’ she grinned to herself.

Lennox’s face was stone-cold, and his eyes were sharp. The executives trailing him during the site inspection were on edge, barely daring to breathe, terrified that one wrong move would put them right in the line of fire.
Melinda, his secretary, was the only one who picked up on a suble detail.
Every time Mr. Stratford checked his phone, it just made things worse.
His mood would get worse every time he glanced at the screen.
Melinda couldn’t help but wonder, ‘What’s up with that?’
‘Wait, is Mr. Stratford… seeing someone?’ she thought, a little shocked.
‘Could it be he’s waiting for his girlfriend to text him back?’ Melinda wondered.
‘Is he sulking because she hasn’t replied yet?’ she thought, puzzled.
‘No way!’ she thought.
‘Definitely not so, she told herself.
She quickly brushed off that ridiculous idea.
‘Come on, this is Mr. Stratford we’re talking about!’ Melinda thought, a little awestruck.
‘He’s way out of everyone’s league. If he wanted a girl, he could have her in a heartbeat. No way he’d be moping around, waiting for her reply, she told herself.
‘Getting secretly annoyed just because she’s not texting back?’ Melinda rolled her eyes to herself.
Besides.
‘Any girl Mr. Stratford actually likes should count herself lucky,’ Melinda mused.
‘She’d be thrilled just to get a message from him. There’s no way she’d ever risk leaving him on read, Melinda thought, shaking her head.
“There’s just no way Mr. Stratford is sitting around waiting for some girl to reply, Melinda told herself, feeling certain.
Absolutely impossible!’ she thought.
“Trying to figure out what Mr. Stratford is thinking is basically impossible. I should just stop guessing, Melinda decided, giving up on the idea.
Lennox felt like his mind was a mess. He couldn’t even hear wha his subordinates were saying, and everything just annoyed him. After a moment, he pulled out his phone again. This time,is Instagram feed was blowing up with over 99 new notifications.
Lennox had almost never posted on Instagram. So as soon as he put up that photo, the comments started flooding in.
There were hundreds of comments, flattery, compliments, and people were trying to butter him up.
But none of them were what Lennox wanted to see.
Just as Lennox was about to swipe away, his eyes suddenly widened and his heart skipped a beat. In the sea of comments, he spotted a familiar profile picture.

That was right.
It was Nerissa.
She’d not only liked the post, but even dropped a comment.

Lennox instantly tapped out a reply to her, his hands shaking. [Yeah, the view here is pretty amazing. If you ever get the chance, you should come visit.]
If anyone had looked at his phone, they’d see that out of hundreds of comments on Lennox’s post, the only one he replied to was Nerissa’s.
After replying to Nerissa, the coldness on Lennox’s face vanished He looked up at Neil. “Neil.”
“Yes, Mr. Stratford.” Neil stepped forward immediately.
Lennox smiled as he scanned the construction site. “Everyone’s worked hard this month. Have finance give everyone a three-hundred-dollar bonus.”
‘Huh?’ Neil did a double take, totally caught off guard.
He was so stunned by the sudden turnaround.
Neil gaped, her jaw practically dropping.
‘Is Mr. Stratford serious?’ she thought, still in disbelief.
He’d just been in a foul mood, glaring at everyone and tearing into people left and right.
But just like that, Mr. Stratford was suddenly handing out bonuses to everyone!
‘Is this for real, or am I just dreaming?’ Neil thought, still totally stunned.
Neil swallowed, his voice trembling a bit. “Mr. Stratford, you mean every worker gets a bonus this month?”
“That’s right,” Lennox nodded slightly.
Neil could hardly believe her ears.
‘Oh my god!’ he thought, totally floored.
‘Did I seriously just hear that?’ he had to double-check if he’d heard him right.
And that wasn’t even the craziest part.
To top it all off, Mr. Stratford actually smiled at him.
After all these years working for him, this was literally the first tie Mr. Stratford had ever smiled at him.
Good thing Neil wasn’t attracted to Lennox.
If he were, she’d probably start wondering if Mr. Stratford was in him!
After leaving the construction site, Lennox kept grinding through his tasks.
As soon as he got back from the last charity dinner party, the very first thing he did was whip out his phone, open up a search engine, and goggled. [Why would a girl not only like a gu’s new Instagram post, but also drop a comment on it? What does it mean?]

Chapter 82
The answers were all over the place.
[No big deal. She probably just did it out of habit, liked and commented, nothing special.]
[Maybe she’s into you!]
[Can’t believe people still ask this. Lame.]
[Bro, if you like her, shoot your shot! Keep posting on Instagram]
‘Post more on Instagram?’ Lennox wondered, a little skeptical.
Reading that comment, Lennox arched his eyebrows, a flicker of surprise crossing his face.
‘Wait, isn’t that exactly what that book said?’ he thought, a bit amused.
The next day.
Lennox went out to buy a six-figure designer bag for Luke.

Once he got to the luxury store, he snapped a photo and shot it ever to Luke on WhatsApp. [Is this the bag you wanted?]
[Yep, that’s the one, Uncle Lennox! This brand’s other bags are awesome too, and some are total collector’s items. You could grab one for Ms. Jamison’s birthday. Trust me, girls go crazy for bags!] Luke replied.
Lennox held his phone in one hand, typed out a reply with a deadpan expression, and hit send. [I don’t spend money on any woman I’m not related to by blood.]
Luke couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
‘Again with that line?’ Luke thought, totally fed up.
‘How can my uncle be such a cheapskate?’ Luke muttered to himself.
‘Does Uncle Lennox even realize he’s basically dooming himself o bachelorhood?’ Luke thought, shaking his head.
After texting Luke back, Lennox showed the shop assistant the picture on his phone. “Can you pack this one up for me?”
“Sure thing, sir,” she replied.
She rushed off to pack it up right away.
Lennox glanced over and asked, “So, do girls really go crazy for andbags?”
His voice might be a little cold, but he was insanely handsome with those deep, big eyes. One look and the salesgirl was blushing, nerves all over the place.
“Wait, is this guy into me?’ she wondered, her heart racing.
‘Why else would he suddenly ask if I like bags?’ she thought, herind spinning.
Is he about to buy me a bag?’ she wondered, her heart pounding
‘Yeah, that’s gotta be it!’ she thought, her heart thumping like cry.
Just imagining it made her pulse race even faster.
Working here meant they were always bumping into the rich and powerful. Plenty of girls in this business had snagged themselves rich husbands and become trophy wives, or ended up as some rich men’s kept woman at the very least.

One look at Lennox and she could tell he was top-tier, definitely big shot.
What regular person showed up with three assistants in tow?
The salesgirl’s gaze landed on the three assistants standing behind Lennox.
“Wait, am I really about to marry a rich man?’ she thought, her heart pounding like crazy.

The more she thought about it, the more excited she got. Her eyes lit up as she looked at Lennox, barely able to contain herself.
“Absolutely, sir! Bags are a cure-all for girls. I’m obsessed with collecting every kind I can get my hands on!”
Lennox suddenly realized, ‘Wait, that’s exactly what is written in the book.”
“Alright, this one, this one, and that one,” Lennox said in his usual low voice, casually pointing at the row of bags. “Wrap them all up for me.”
