Chapter 87
Chapter 87
Ivy watched as Nerissa handed over the card.
Ivy’s expression changed dramatically, shock written all over her face.
‘How is this possible?’ Ivy thought, her mind reeling.
‘How does Nerissa have an access card to Winton Villas?!’
‘Only the owners are supposed to have those!’ Ivy’s thoughts raced in disbelief.
Meanwhile, Alice’s face was just as sour.
Winton Villas was pretty big, but since it was a new development there weren’t many people living there yet.
Besides, she’d joined the owners’ WhatsApp group, so she knew all the residents pretty well.
But Alice had never heard of this girl before.
‘When did some brat like her show up at Winton Villas?’ Alice thought, her eyes narrowing.
‘Where the hell did she get that access card from?’ Alice wondered, suspicion gnawing at her.
‘It’s fake!’ Alice thought, her mind racing.
‘It’s definitely fake,’ she insisted to herself.

Alice narrowed her eyes. ‘Does she really think she can just flash a fake access card and fool everyone? Delusional!’
She sneered.
With that thought, Alice turned to the security guard and said with a snort, “Zack, you’d better check that card carefully! Winton Villas isn’t a place just anyone can waltz into.”
Hearing Alice’s words, Ivy got it in a flash.
‘Oh,’ Ivy realized.
‘So the card is fake!’ Ivy thought, a sense of satisfaction washing over her.
‘I knew it!’ she thought.
‘How could that country girl Nerissa possibly be an owner at Winton Villas?’ Ivy thought with a sneer.
Who does she think she is?’ Ivy scoffed to herself.
The security guard didn’t dismiss Nerissa because of Alice’s words. Instead, he took Nerissa’s access card respectfully and said, “Please wait a moment.”
Beep!
As soon as the card touched the sensor, there was a beep.
The gate swung open.
It was the real deal.

Chapter 87
A fake card wouldn’t have worked!
Once the card was scanned, the security guard respectfully handed it back to Nerissa. “Have a good day.”
Nerissa took the card without even sparing Ivy a glance, striding inside like Ivy and Alice didn’t even exist.
Zack, the security guard, watched Nerissa walk away, unable to hide his shock.
Indeed.
The truly wealthy are always low-key and have real substance.

‘Not like Alice and Ivy, strutting around like they’re somebody when they’ve barely got two pennies to rub together.
‘It’s always the ones with nothing to show who make the most nose.
Just like that, Ivy was left completely stunned.
Her face turned pale as paper, and she felt so humiliated.
‘How is this possible?’ Ivy thought, her mind reeling.
‘Could Nerissa really have bought a villa here?’ The thought made Ivy’s heart sink.
Ivy just stood there, watching Nerissa walk away, still in shock.
Ivy felt so annoyed, her gaze glued to the directional sign by the road.
Nerissa was heading straight for Building 8.
At Winton Villas, Buildings 1-7 and 27-51 were on the east and west ends, while 8-26 lined the north and south sides.
The line between the luxury area and the regular area was crystal clear.
‘No way… Ivy’s thoughts spun out of control.
‘Not only does Nerissa live at Winton Villas, but she might actually be in Building 8, the fancy part of the whole place,’ Ivy thought, her mind spinning.
Ivy looked up at Alice, her voice shaky. “Alice, did you just say Building 8 is the fancy part of Winton Villas?”
Alice didn’t want to admit it, but she nodded anyway. “Yeah.”
Hearing Alice’s confirmation, jealousy hit Ivy like a punch to the gut.
‘Why her?’ Ivy fumed.
‘What makes Nerissa worthy of living in the luxury area at Winton Villas?’ Ivy seethed.
‘Did Nerissa really manage to hook up with another rich man?’ Iy thought, her jealousy flaring even hotter.
‘She’s divorced. Who does she think she is, thinking she can land some rich heir?’ Ivy scoffed to herself.
Just picturing Nerissa with another wealthy boyfriend made Ivy el like she couldn’t even breathe. It was killing her.
Seeing Ivy like this, Alice asked, “Do you know that girl?”
“Not really,” Ivy said, her eyes narrowing. “Her name’s Nerissa Jamison. She’s just some abandoned kid that some distant relatives on my dad’s side adopted. We’re not actually related. Just a little over a month ago, her grandpa even dragged her to

my house, trying to get a free ride. I have no clue how she ende up with an access card to Winton Villas!”
Alice narrowed her eyes. “Is she someone’s sugar baby or something?”
After all,
Nerissa was stunningly beautiful.
From what Alice knew, there were plenty of sugar babies living in Winton Villas.
Ivy shook her head. “Who would want to keep a divorced woman? She’s basically damaged goods.”
Hearing that, Alice’s eyes were full of contempt. “She’s divorced?
“Yeah,” Ivy replied.
Alice’s disdain only deepened.
‘So she’s just damaged goods, a divorced woman,’ Alice thought with a sneer.
Ivy was right.
No man wanted a divorced woman, not even if she threw herself at him.
“Excuse me, miss, could you step aside?” Just then, a voice called out from nearby.
Alice quickly moved out of the way.
An old man in a yellow safety vest walked over with a pair of tongs and picked up the trash at Alice’s feet.
Once he was done, he just walked away.
Alice didn’t even get a good look at his face.
But Ivy just started laughing out loud as she watched the old man walk away.
“Ivy, what’s so funny?” Alice asked, looking at her in confusion. “Do you know that janitor too?”
Hearing Alice’s words, Hunter looked back at Ivy.
His eyes flickered with something one couldn’t quite place.

Ivy quickly tried to disassociate herself, like just being near Huner would drag her down. “No way! How could I possibly know someone like him? We’re not even in the same world.”
The last glimmer of hope in Hunter’s eyes faded away.
‘I knew it,’ Hunter thought to himself.
‘Should’ve known better than to expect anything from a snake like her,’ Hunter thought, bitterness flooding his chest.
‘So what if we’re family?
A snake is always a snake. Blood means nothing
Ivy leaned in, lowering her voice. “Alice, do you have any idea wo that old man is?”
“Who is he?” Alice asked.

“That’s Nerissa’s grandpa,” Ivy said with a mocking grin. “It all makes sense now. That’s how she got an access card to Winton Villas!”
She had actually thought Nerissa bought a villa here for real.
Turned out,
it was just because her grandpa worked here as a janitor!
“What a joke!’ Ivy snickered to herself, barely able to contain her laughter.
Hearing Ivy’s words, Alice burst out laughing. “A janitor’s granddaughter thinks she can put on airs in front of me? Disgusting!”
Ivy linked arms with Alice. “Nerissa’s always been ridiculously van, always trying to make herself look better than me. Alice, she’s not even worth your time.”
Alice’s eyes were full of disdain. “Like I’d ever stoop to her level!”
What a joke!
Getting into it with a janitor’s granddaughter would only lower her status.

It wasn’t until Nerissa got home that she remembered to open the gifts Lennox had brought last night.
She’d never been much of a luxury brand girl, and usually just grabbed whatever bag looked cute. But seeing Lennox send her ten bags at once? Her jaw nearly dropped. Even the packaging screamed money.
Her third-floor bedroom had a walk-in closet with a cabinet just for bags, so she hauled all the bags upstairs and stashed them away.
Once she was done, she spotted a massive lipstick set hiding at the very bottom.
There were, like, sixty-plus lipsticks in there.
Every shade one could imagine, from deep, dramatic colors to soft, barely-there nudes, they had it all.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Ding!
“Coming!” Nerissa called out.
She hurried downstairs to open the door.
Ding
As soon as she opened the door.
the first thing she saw was a huge bouquet of flowers.
Then Faye’s adorable face peeked out from behind the bouquet Happy birthday. Nerissa!
“Thanks, Fifi,” Nerissa said.
Rather than reaching for the bouquet right away, Nerissa went in for a bug with Faye.

Faye hugged her back, grinning. “Nerissa, why are you still so pote? We’re friends, you know, no need for all that.”
A few seconds later, Nerissa let go, took the flowers, and grabbed Faye’s exclusive cat slippers from the cabinet. “Want something to drink? I’ll pour you a glass.”
“Lemon Coke,” Faye replied, slipping on the cat slippers as if she owned the place.
“You got it,” Nerissa nodded. “Lucky for you, I’ve got lemons righ here.”
Nerissa set the flowers down on the table and headed to the kitchen to make some lemon Coke. She sliced up fresh lemons, threw them in a container with ice, and crushed them until the juice was bursting with flavor. Then she poured in the Coke to finish it off.
Just like that, she had a super refreshing drink loaded with vitamin C, ready to serve.
One sip on a blazing summer day? It was the ultimate way to cool off.
While Nerissa was busy with the lemons, Faye found a vase and arranged the flowers.
By the time Faye finished with the flowers, Nerissa had the drinks all set.
“Here you go, Fifi,” Nerissa said, handing her the drink.
Faye took the drink, then, as if she just remembered something, dug a jewelry box out of her bag. “Nerissa, this is your birthday present.”
Nerissa’s eyes lit up with surprise. “For me?”
“Of course,” Faye said with a grin. “Open it, take a look.”
Under Faye’s expectant gaze, Nerissa opened the jewelry box.
Inside, nestled on a bed of black velvet, was a beautiful bracelet. The design was simple, but it radiated elegance.
Nerissa knew a bit about jewelry, and she could instantly tell this bracelet was extremely valuable.
“Fifi…” Nerissa said softly.
Faye jumped in before she could finish. “Nerissa, this is a bracele, my dad specially asked a friend of his to make for you. They say this material can nurture you and keep bad luck away. You absolutely can’t refuse it! If you turn down my birthday present, then I’m giving back the one you gave me.”
Ever since Nerissa gave Faye that unique golden locket for her birthday, Faye had worn it every single day.
She never took it off.
Hearing that, Nerissa smiled and held out her hand. “Alright, the you put it on for me.”
“Now that’s more like it,” Faye grinned.
Nerissa’s skin was fair, her fingers long and slender, with perfect rounded nails in a healthy pink. Her hands had a natural, effortless beauty that was just stunning.
Faye gently took her hand and slipped the bracelet on with case
The bracelet looked absolutely breathtaking on Nerissa’s wrist, ol, refined, and elegant, almost as if it came alive the moment she put it on. Usually, it was the bracelet that flattered the wearer. But with Nerissa, it looked like she was the one making the bracelet shine.

Nerissa lifted her hand and gave the bracelet a gentle shake. “It really is beautiful, Fifi. You’ve got great taste. I love this present!”
“As long as you love it, that’s all that matters,” Faye said, her happiness shining through as she saw Nerissa so delighted.
Nerissa continued, “By the way, Fifi, what do you want for lunch I’ll have the maid come over and cook whatever you like.”
Nerissa was pretty good at most things, but not cooking.
Growing up in the orphanage, they had tried to teach the kids how to cook and handle life on their own, but Nerissa had gotten picked for the gifted class at twelve, so she’d never even gotten a shot at learning any of that stuff.
After that, she had been basically glued to labs and offices all day so the kitchen? She’d never even set foot in there.
Once they moved, Nerissa didn’t want Hunter slaving away over the stove every day, so she hired a maid to come by and whip up lunch and dinner for them.
“Forget the maid! Let’s cook lunch at home. I brought some kille source with me, straight from my mom in the southwest. It’s so spicy and tasty!” Faye grinned.
“Sounds good,” Nerissa nodded. “We’ve got plenty of time, so let hit the supermarket and stock up together.”
“Great!” Faye grinned, she loved nothing more than shopping with her friends.
At around 10:30,
they returned home with bags stuffed full of ingredients.
When they got back, there were already a bunch of packages piled up at the door.
Nerrisa picked them up and checked the labels. They were from Luke, Clive, Betty and others.
All of them were birthday presents for her.
At eleven, Hunter came back with a cake in hand. “Happy birthday, Nerissa. I’ll have dinner with my colleagues tonight. Let’s celebrate your birthday at lunch instead.”
“Thanks, Grandpa,” Nerissa said, taking the cake from him. “Fifist got here too.”
“Hi, Grandpa Hunter,” Faye said sweetly as she walked over to gret Hunter.
“Fifi, thanks for coming to celebrate Nerissa’s birthday,” Hunter id with a warm smile.
This was hands down the best and most unforgettable birthday erissa had ever had.
She was surrounded by people who truly cared, family and friends both.
Since they were expecting guests that night, Faye left around 5:30. After she was gone, Nerissa got ready to head out and meet Lennox at the restaurant.
She’d already texted Lennox the restaurant’s address and phone umber.
It was a swanky place.
The vibe was amazing.
When Nerissa showed up, Lennox was already chilling at a window seat. He spotted her and waved. “Nerissa, over here.”

She’d actually arrived fifteen minutes early, thinking she’d be the one waiting. But turned out, Lennox had beaten her to it!
“Sorry for making you wait,” Nerissa said.
“Guess I mixed up the time,” Lennox replied, his voice calm as ever.
Once they sat down, Nerissa handed him the menu. “Anything you want to eat? Go ahead and pick whatever you like.”
Lennox said, “I’m not picky. Ladies first, I’ll have whatever you’re having.”
“Okay,” Nerissa said with a grin.
Nerissa picked up the menu.
Just then,
Lennox’s phone buzzed.
He picked it up. It was a WhatsApp message from Luke.
[Uncle Lennox, where are you? I’m coming to find you!]
Lennox casually picked up his phone, and tapped out a quick reply with one hand. [I’m in a meeting.]
