Chapter 90
Chapter 90
Even though their last game had dragged on for over two hours. Lennox still felt like he wasn’t satisfied yet.
“Sure,” he said.
Just as well, Nerissa hadn’t had her fill of chess either.
According to the rules of Go,
the winner of the previous game gets to make the first move.
So, this time, Nerissa played black.
She made her first move with ease, dropping her stone right on the center point of the board.
Lennox raised his eyebrows.
Every time Lennox played against her, it was like a whole new experience.

Now that he’d read Nerissa’s playstyle, Lennox was even more careful this time, carefully considering every single move.
Nerissa matched his caution, just as focused and deliberate.
After the last game, she’d figured out how Lennox played, but the only reason she’d won was because he hadn’t caught on to her setup.
If it had been anyone else, she could’ve just used the same move again.
But this time, her opponent was Lennox.
There was no way she could use the same tactic in front of him now.
Time ticked by, second after second.
Their eyes were locked on the board. At this moment, nothing else existed for them.
Move after move, each answered the other in a relentless back-and-forth.
Neither was willing to back down.
When masters faced off, every move was a deadly strike.
The atmosphere crackled with tension, and the scene was nothing short of spectacular.
Anyone who understood Go would be fired up just watching, blood pumping with excitement.
An hour passed, then two, then three…
From three in the afternoon all the way to seven-thirty at night,
The battle on the board was fierce, but it was still neck and neck, with no clear winner in sight.
Nerissa had never spent more than four hours in a match with anyone before.
This was her very first time.
She had to admit, the feeling was absolutely amazing.

Nerissa played her game while nibbling on desserts, sipping the offee whenever she got thirsty, and she couldn’t be more
content.
Just as Nerissa was about to pop another piece of dessert into her mouth, Lennox made his move.
His slender fingers slowly set down a stone on the board, and his voice, smooth and magnetic, broke the silence.
“Nerissa, good game. I won.” he said.
When he called her “Nerissa”, it just sounded perfectly pleasant.
Nerissa froze, her eyes dropping to the board. The realization hi her. She’d actually lost.
‘I lost?’ Nerissa was stunned.
‘Someone actually beat me?’ She could hardly believe it.
‘Unbelievable.’ She was still in shock.
‘I got careless and lost,’ she thought, regret flooding in.
‘I really messed up this time!’ she berated herself.
Nerissa raised her eyebrows.
“Lennox Stratford,” she called softly.
“Hmm?” Lennox turned to her, his eyes deep and mysterious.
No one had ever called him by his full name before.
Nerissa was the very first.
Oddly enough, he found he really liked hearing her say it.
Every time she called his name, it sent a warm, electric rush straight to his heart.
It was like he might just lose control for a moment, a strange, ye surprisingly delightful feeling.
Nerissa grinned, “Up for another game?”
‘I can play at this level, but it’s so hard to find someone who truly gets it,’ she thought.
It was rare to find someone who could actually give her a run for her money, and she wasn’t about to leave after just two
games.
Besides, she’d only just started to figure out Lennox’s style.
Of course, she wanted to go all in and really duke it out.
“Sure,” Lennox replied with a faint nod.
Truth be told, Lennox felt exactly the same.
It was rare to find someone who truly matched his rhythm and connected with him. There was no way he was going to miss out on this opportunity.

The way one played Go reflected their character.
By playing against her, he could gain deeper insight into who she was.
And then, the game was on again.
Another round of cutthroat action unfolded on the board.
Before they knew it, it was already 11 PM.
By then, they’d played four rounds.
Two wins, two losses for Nerissa.
It was a tie, plain and simple.
She got up master!”

from her chair, gave a lazy stretch, and grinned, “Lennox, I gotta say, I never realized you were such a Go
Stretching like that was usually not the most graceful move.
But when Nerissa did it, she somehow made it look effortless and surprisingly attractive.
“You’re amazing too,” Lennox said, pouring the coffee. “Honestly I’ve never met anyone who could play Go like you do.
Almost no one could ever end up in a tie with Lennox in Go.
Nerissa was the very first.
Nerissa glanced at her phone. “Too bad it’s already 11 PM. Otherwise, I’d totally want to play a few more rounds with you.”
Lennox said softly, “We’ve got plenty of time.”
“Yeah,” Nerissa nodded, “We’ve got plenty of time.”
Nerissa grabbed her bag from the table and grinned, “Wanna go get something to eat?”
She hadn’t felt hungry at all while they were playing. But now that she was on her feet, she realized, ‘Wow, I’m actually starving.
“Sure,” Lennox replied with a slight nod.
They stepped out of the private room, Nerissa in front and Lennox right behind her.
Nerissa led the way.
Lennox followed close behind.
It was already II PM.
By the time they finished their game, it was already past ten at night.
Most restaurants were already closed by now, but that just mean it was the perfect time for some late-night street food.
Nerissa hadn’t had any late-night snacks in ages.
The last time she grabbed some late-night food was a month ago
Nerissa looked at Lennox and grinned, “What do you want to ca My treat.”

“Are you cool with grabbing some street food?” Nerissa asked. “There’s this killer BBQ stand I know. If we head over now, I bet there’s already a line.”
Want to know how you can tell if a restaurant is the real deal?
Two words.
Long lines.
Four words.
Lines, all year round.
And Nerissa’s go-to street BBQ spot? Yep, it was one of those plates, always packed, always a line out front.
Besides, tonight was the perfect chance. Who knows when she’d get to share a late-night feast like this with Lennox again?
Yeah, that’s fine. I actually eat street food by myself all the time. Lennox lied casually, like it was just another normal thing for him.
That’s perfect! Let’s head out,” Nerissa said with a bright smile.
Lennox fished his car keys out of his suit pocket. “I’ll go get the car. Wait for me at the entrance of the cafe.”
“Wait,” Nerissa blurted out, instinctively grabbing his arm.
“What’s wrong?” Lennox paused, a little caught off guard, and then turned to look at her.
Nerissa explained, “Parking’s a nightmare over there. Let’s just walk,. It’s not far at all.”
“Alright,” Lennox replied with a slight nod.
The summer night breeze drifted around them, cool and gentle
They strolled side by side beneath the sycamore trees, lost in easy conversation. Nerissa suddenly laughed, dimples popping at the corners of her smile. Out of nowhere, Lennox came to a llt, his gaze drawn to some shared bicycles parked by the
curb.
“Nerissa, want to bike over there?” Lennox suggested.
“By bike?” Nerissa asked, a bit surprised.
“Yeah,” Lennox nodded.
Nerissa shook her head, a little embarrassed. “I don’t know how ride a bike.”
Lennox smiled. “Well, turns out there really is something you cat do”
Nerissa chuckled, “Guess I must be pretty impressive in your eye, Mr. Stratford!”
“You truly are.” Lennox nodded
Nerissa thought Lennox would crack a joke about her not knowing how to ride a bike, but instead, he was so understanding about it that she actually felt a bit awkward
“Nerissa, wait here for a sec. I’ll go unlock a bike,” Lennox said.

“No worries, I know how. There are some with a back seat over there. Just hop on, I’ll do the riding,” Lennox replied.
“Alright,” Nerissa nodded with a smile. “Go get it. I’ll wait here.”
Lennox quickly came back, having just scanned and unlocked a shared bike with his phone.
It was one of those blue bikes.
He rested one foot on the pedal, the other on the ground, and shot Nerissa a sidelong look. “Nerissa, hop on.”
It was just an ordinary bike, but in Lennox’s hands, it had the auth of a multi-million dollar luxury car.
That was the sheer force of his aura.
This was what it meant to be an outstanding man.
Nerissa went along and settled onto the back seat, no hesitation at all.
She perched sideways, phone in one hand, the other lightly holding onto Lennox’s slim but strong waist.
“Hold on tight, Nerissa,” Lennox called out.
Nerissa laughed, “Seriously? You mean you can actually race like crazy on a bike?”
“You bet!” Lennox grinned. “Back in school, nobody in my class could beat me when it came to biking.”
Nerissa raised her eyebrows, teasing, “You’re bragging!”
As soon as she said that, the bike lurched forward, wind rushing past her cheeks as they sped down the street.
They were flying down the street.
Nerissa instinctively hugged his waist tighter, just to keep herself steady.
She realized he really wasn’t just bragging!
With Nerissa’s arm snug around his waist, Lennox swallowed hard, feeling a rush of adrenaline in his legs. Out of Nerissa’s sight, there was a confident, almost boyish grin on his face.
‘Man, tonight’s breeze is just so sweet, Lennox thought, feeling a warmth in his chest he’d never known before.
Guided by the GPS on the phone, they reached the famous BBQ stand Nerissa had talked up in just ten minutes.
By the time they arrived, people were already lining up.
Nerissa hopped off the bike. “I’ll go get in line. Just park the bike and come find me.”
“Alright,” Lennox replied.
As Nerissa walked away, Lennox watched her back with a compliated look, a hint of regret flickering in his eyes. ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have sped up like that… he thought.
After parking the bike, Lennox jogged over. “Nerissa, I saw an ice cream stand over there. What flavor do you want? I’ll go grab it for you.”
“Chocolate’s good,” Nerissa replied.

“Got it. Wait here for a sec, Lennox said, heading off to get the ice cream.
Lennox walked over to the ice cream stand.
“Hey, two chocolate ice creams, please,” he said.
“No problem. That’ll be 12 bucks,” the vendor replied.
Lennox pulled out his phone and paid.
Before long, he came back holding two ice creams. “Nerissa, got our ice cream!”
“Thanks!” Nerissa replied, sounding genuinely happy.

Standing in line together, ice cream in hand, Lennox, usually the quiet, reserved type, was suddenly chatty and relaxed, actually making Nerissa laugh with his easy banter.
Just then, a leaf fell right into Nerissa’s hair.
“Nerissa, don’t move,” Lennox called out.
“What’s wrong?” Nerissa asked, confused.
“You’ve got something in your hair,” Lennox said, reaching out and carefully picked the leaf out of her hair.
As Lennox bent down, his shadow enveloped Nerissa, and the subtle scent of pine drifted around her, clean, fresh, and so unmistakably him. For some reason, Nerissa felt her heart go wild, like she’d suddenly lost all control over it.
It hit her like a June storm, sudden, wild, and totally out of control.
Her heart was pounding.
There was a couple just ahead in the line.
The girl glanced over at Nerissa and Lennox, envy written all over her face. She turned to her boyfriend with a huff, “Look at her boyfriend. Not only is he good-looking, he’s actually considerate! The second his girlfriend asked the vendor for a napkin, he handed it right over. And he even helped her get a leaf out of her hair!”
“Yeah, whatever,” the boy grumbled, barely looking up from his hone. “Next time, I’ll pick leaves out of your hair too, alright?”
“That’s not the point! You’re always on your damn phone, no matter where we are! I’m done. Eat by yourself!” the girl snapped, spun around, and stormed off.
The boy was speechless.
“What’s wrong with checking my phone?’ he thought, totally confused.
I was always on my phone even before I had a girlfriend!
‘Man, girls these days are so sensitive, he muttered to himself.
“They’re just impossible, he sighed, feeling totally fed up.
Lennox watched the whole thing play out, a little dazed. ‘Man, good thing I did my research and didn’t mess up by checking my phone in front of Nerissa, he thought, feeling pretty relieved Guess I really need to keep leveling up if I want to keep up
with her!
In about ten minutes, Nerissa and Lennox made it to the front of the line.

Nerissa grabbed a tray and handed it to Lennox “Seriously, just grab anything you want! Dinner’s on me tonight.”
Trust me. I won’t be shy about it,” Lennox replied with a grin.
This was Lennox’s first time at a street BBQ stand, and honestly he had no clue where to start. He just stood there awkwardly until someone next to him popped open the fridge and started picking out ingredients, so he just copied their moves, following along step by step.
Why are you only picking out veggies?” Nerissa teased, tossing some meat onto her tray. Then she added with a grin. The oysters here are good. Want to give them a shot?”
Wait, oysters? Lennox blinked, caught off guard.
He hadn’t even dared go near anything remotely “suggestive” these past few days, let alone oysters. The thought alone made his mind instantly go places it really shouldn’t. Lennox cleared his throat awkwardly, trying to play it cool. “Yeah, sure.”
Whatever was running through his mind, he blushed in an instant.
The flush crept all the way down his neck.
He felt so awkward.
Then let’s throw in ten more oysters,” Nerissa said, totally missing Lennox’s flustered reaction. She was way too busy loading up her tray with all her favorite snacks.
Meanwhile, Luke was cruising around with his buddy Zeke, hunting for some late-night grub. Out of nowhere. Zeke, riding shotgun, spotted a familiar face at the street BBQ stand and nearly lost it. “Shit! Bro, look over there. Isn’t that….Mr. Stratford!
