But Grace only shook her head helplessly. She finally covered her face, and tears spilled through her fingers in heavy drops.
“I was wrong… I was so unbelievably wrong. I failed Aurora.”
Hearing that, Arnold immediately understood what she meant.
It seemed she had finally realized her mistake. She truly had owed Aurora far too much, and Arnold allowed himself a small, fragile hope.
After everything that happened, maybe Grace would finally see who really cared for her.
“Madam Grace, you’ve truly thought this through.”
There was emotion in Arnold’s voice as he spoke.
If Grace had really awakened this time, then Aurora might finally see an end to all her suffering.
Grace nodded earnestly.
“I truly understand my mistake. I went too far. I owe Aurora so much. I see now where the problem was. I was stubborn and blind before.”
“Madam Grace, do you mean every word of that?”
Even Arnold’s voice wavered, thick with emotion.
He never thought he would live to see this day. He had always feared Aurora would spend her life with a mother who never loved her.
But if Grace had finally awakened, then Aurora still had a chance.
Just the thought of it filled Arnold with relief on Aurora’s behalf.
“I’ll treat Aurora well from now on. I’ll make it up to her.”
Grace suddenly straightened, eyes bright with resolve.
“I’ve already made up my mind. She’s my only daughter—if I don’t treat her well, who will?”
Hearing that, Arnold was confused.
Arnold stood frozen for a long time before her words finally sank in.
Only then did he turn his head slowly toward her.
“So what you’re saying is… you neglected your own daughter but showered all your affection on the daughter of the man you once loved. That child wasn’t even yours. Is that right?”
“Yes, that’s exactly what I meant.”
Hearing her mistake repeated back to her made Grace feel even worse.
She couldn’t believe she had actually done so many foolish things.
Before Arnold could speak, Grace hurried to reassure him.
“Don’t worry. I won’t be foolish again. I know now who truly matters and I should rely on in the future.”
Hearing that, Arnold couldn’t stop his voice from rising.
