“Enough. Stop hesitating,” Sean said.
He let out a sigh. “If you still want to mend things with your mother, then you’d better be sure that the two of you are actually biological mother and daughter.”
“What nonsense are you talking about?”
The words slipped out before Tessa could stop herself.
Even she was startled.
She was clearly Sean’s child with another woman—how could she possibly be Grace’s daughter?
Sean spread his hands, sounding helpless.
“See? You said it yourself. It’s impossible.”
“So the reality is right there in front of you. There’s no room left to salvage anything.”
A wave of dejection washed over Tessa.
She had to admit that Sean was right.
No matter how hard she tried, she could never catch up to Grace.
Moreover, Grace wasn’t even her biological mother.
At this point, saying anything else was meaningless.
Instead of dwelling on the past, she needed to think about what came next.
“Where are we supposed to run to?”
Tessa finally compromised and looked up at Sean.
She truly had no idea where they could go.
And if Grace really wanted to come after them, she would probably find them quickly no matter where they hid.
Their struggle felt pointless, completely futile.
The thought left her feeling hollow.
But Sean remained firm.
“If you’re ready to give up without even trying, then I don’t think you’re worthy of being my daughter.”
Those words stunned Tessa.
Tessa made up her mind.
She looked straight at Sean, her gaze steady. “If we’ve decided to leave but are still standing here, then we’ve already failed.”
“Have you thought about where we’re going?”
Sean was momentarily stunned by how abruptly she said it.
After all, Tessa had been obsessing over what they should do next just moments ago.
He hadn’t expected her to come to a decision so suddenly.
For a moment, he couldn’t quite react.
But Tessa spoke with conviction.
“Anywhere is fine, as long as it’s better than staying here.”
Her eyes were firmer than before. “I know very well that if we stay and keep pushing forward here, there’s only one outcome—ruin.”
Sean raised an eyebrow slightly.
He didn’t say much, but he understood clearly that what Tessa said made complete sense.
