Chapter 365.
My humming faltered
Td overdone it at lunch, and I was still a bit hazy in the afternoon.
He’d let me rest in the office, and when it was almost time to leave, he told me I could home
I thought I wouldn’t see him again today.
I took my shopping bags from the passenger seat and walked toward him
“Mr. Shaw, what are you doing here at this hour?” I stood before him, my tone casual, as if I had simply run into my boss,
my friendliness laced with insincerity.
The light under the tree was dim, but a nearby lamppost illuminated our faces enough.
I smiled brightly.
Xander’s deep, unreadable gaze moved from my face to my bags.
“You’re sober now?”
“Yes,” I nodded. Actually, I’m a pretty good drinker. I get drunk fast, but I also sober up quickly.”
“I can see that. You sobered up quickly,” he said with a smile.
“I wasn’t really that drunk. I always drink responsibly,”
“You are quite responsible,” he chuckled.
I tightened my grip on the bags, silence falling between us.
My casual act was crumbling under the tense quiet.
Xander remained silent, calmly observing me, his gaze penetrating but unspoken, making me feel like I was on trial.
I felt suffocated.
My mood grew increasingly irritable.
It was already hot and stuffy, and now there were mosquitos buzzing around, making me itch.
My wolf was equally restless and agitated, “WHY DOES HE HAVE TO MAKE EVERYTHING SO CLEAR?! WHY DOES HE HAVE TO MAKE US SUFFER?”
“Did you come to see if I was sober?”
My tone edged with impatience.”I’m sober. You’ve seen that. You can go home now.”
Xander still didn’t speak.
Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore.”Fine, whatever. I’m going upstairs. There are too many mosquitos here. You can stay and feed them,” I turned to leave.
Xander caught up and stepped in front of me. I bumped into his chest.
“It’s late! What do you want? Do you want me to get some rest?”
“Take a walk with me,” he said.
“No! I want to go upstairs, shower, and sleep!”
“Don’t be so angry.”
I wanted to hit him with my shopping bags.
