Eighth-Born Luna (Emily and Nathan) novel Chapter 139

Chapter 139

Emily’s POV

I stood like a ghost inside a large office with black stone walls. Behind a massive desk, the Bloodcave Pack insignia was carved deeply into the wood.

Standing right in the center of the room was a Luna from my bloodline. Even though I wasn’t inside her body, I could feel her heart breaking. Humiliation, betrayal, and grief hit me all at once.

Wendy, you think this doesn’t hurt me too?

I locked over at the Alpha. He was tall, darkhaired, and handsome, but he looked completely ruined. The mix of love, desperation, and need was so strong it made my own chest hurt.

Wendy didn’t say a word. She just stared at him, her lips pressed into a thin line.

Then I noticed the young, beautiful woman standing right next to him. She was heavily pregnant, holding her stomach protectively while leaning against the Alpha. She looked just like Wendy.

Her sister.

Suddenly, the mood in the room turned toxic. I felt a wave of triumph, jealousy, and satisfaction, but it wasn’t coming from Wendy. It was coming from her sister.

My dear daughter,an older Alpha said coldly from behind the desk. Your sister carries the future Alpha heir.

Each word felt like a knife to Wendy.

Lily will become the chosen Luna.

No. This couldn’t be happening.

The air in the room grew heavy and hard to breathe. The Alpha’s guilt, the mother’s grief, the father’s shame, and Lily’s satisfactionWendy felt it all, and I did too.

Miles and Lily’s mating ceremony will happen next month, her father continued, without a hint of warmth in his

voice. The pack must remain united.

United by destroying one daughter to lift up the other.

Wendy’s fingers gripped the edge of the desk. You all chose power over me,she whispered, her voice cracking with raw pain.

The Alpha stepped toward her. Wendy-

The mate bond snapped between them again, filled with love and pain. But underneath it all was cowardice. That was the worst part. He loved her, but he was choosing to betray her anyway.

I break all ties with the Bloodcave Pack,Wendy said.

You are NOT leaving this pack!his Alpha command boomed through the room. ON YOUR KNEES.

The mental pressure hit me too, heavy and crushing. But Wendy didn’t drop.

Instead, she screamed. It wasn’t because of his commandit was because of the feelings. Hundreds of emotions

crashed into her at once, multiplying every second

I pressed my hands over my ears as the painful noise ripped through my own head. It was overwhelming, like drowning inside other people’s minds.

Wendy stumbled back, hitting the wall hard as she struggled to breathe.

Miles lunged toward her, but halfway across the room, he stopped dead in his tracks. He froze completely. The inger melted off his face, replaced by total confusion, and his body went completely slack.

Whather father whispered.

Wendy stared at him, terrified. She had done that to him without even meaning to.

Lily backed away. What is wrong with her?

Beneath Lily’s panic, I felt something much uglier. She didn’t love Miles at all. She only cared about winning.

Something inside Wendy finally snapped. She turned and ran.

The vision shifted quickly.

A thick forest. Heavy rain. Cold wind stinging my skin,

Branches scratched Wendy’s arms as she ran deeper into the woods. But the further she ran, the worse the noise

became.

Wendy tripped hard, holding her head as blood began to run from her nose.

Make it stop,I whispered desperately. This wasn’t a gift. It was torture.

Then, the wolves arrived.

I felt them before I saw them. Their emotions cut through the forest like knivesfilled with duty, fear, pity, bedience, and a cruel excitement. The thoughts hit Wendy so hard she almost dropped to her knees.

There!

Three wolves ran out from the trees. Wendy slipped on the wet ground and fell into the mud. One wolf grabbed her arm roughly, and suddenly, everything exploded.

A wave of energy burst out of Wendy. One wolf dropped to his knees, crying uncontrollably. Another growled in pure anger and attacked his own packmate. The third stepped back, struggling to breathe in total panic.

None of them understood what was happening, and neither did 1. They screamed as violent feelings ripped

through their minds. Wendy wasn’t doing it on purposethe raw power was just spilling out of her.

Another wolf partially shifted, his claws growing as he ran toward her.

For the first time, Wendy looked right at me. Youshe whispered shakily. You’re real.

The wolf behind her raised his claws. Wendy panicked, and the power surged even harder.

No!I grabbed her shoulders. Don’t fight the feelings. Guide them.

The wolf jumped. Wendy gasped, and suddenly, I felt his heart too. Fear. Confusion. Pain. Wendy felt it too, and ears filled her eyes.

The wolf froze midstep. Slowly, his fear softened, replaced by hope, warmth, and safety. His claws lowered.

What did you do to me?he whispered.

Another wolf attacked from the side, but this one felt completely different. Cruelty. Bad intentions. He liked unting her. He liked her fear.

I felt it right away, and this time, I used the power too. I took every piece of heartbreak, betrayal, and grief Wendy carried, and threw it right into his mind.

The wolf dropped instantly, screaming. MAKE IT STOP!He clawed at his chest as heavy cries ripped out of him.

The forest grew quiet.

Silver light began to glow under Wendy’s skin.

Now this power belongs to you,Wendy said, turning to me with tears in her eyes.

The silver light exploded around us, and the exact same energy woke up inside my chest. Every emotion in the world slammed into me at once. Fear. Love. Grief. Rage. All of it.

I woke up with a sharp gasp.

The dining room slowly came back into focus around me. Everyone was on their feet.

Nathan was kneeling beside my chair, one hand gripping mine tightly while the other cupped my face. Meredyth tood behind him, pale with worry.

Poppy and Jessie looked terrified. Across the table, Liam and Marcus watched me as if they were waiting to see if d drop again.

air.

Emily?Nathan’s voice was rough. Talk to me.

I blinked slowly, trying to steady my breathing. I’m okay.

That answer is starting to lose credibility,Marcus muttered.

1:39 pm

No kidding,Liam agreed right away.

Nathan’s eyes searched my face desperately. What happened?

I swallowed hard. was the sixth trial.

The tension in the room spiked.

EmilyNathan closed his eyes briefly, looking exhausted. How many more times are you going to scare me to

death?

Guilt twisted inside me. Sorry.

His jaw flexed, but he only brushed his thumb carefully across my cheek.

And then, something strange hit me. Tiny fragments. Warmth. Fear. Relief. Affection. The emotions in the room brushed against my skin faintlynowhere near as violently as in the trial, but enough that I noticed them.

NyxI whispered internally. I can still feel them.

Her voice turned thoughtful right away. The witch bindings inside us are probably suppressing most of the power. We likely need the dagger to fully unlock it.

That made sense, which was slightly terrifying.

I looked back at everyone and forced a small smile. I think I’m just tired.

You think?Liam snorted.

I’m serious,I muttered weakly. Can I go lie down while you all finish dinner? I’m not really hungry anymore.

Nathan answered before anyone else could. I’m taking her upstairs.

He practically hovered beside me the entire way to the bedroom, as if I might disappear if he blinked too long.

The second the bedroom door shut behind us, Nathan let out a heavy breath and dragged both hands down his

ace.

I sat slowly on the edge of the bed while he stepped in front of me.

So?he asked quietly. What power did you get this time?

I hesitated for a second. Empathy.

Nathan frowned slightly.

I can feel emotions now.I gave a weak little laugh. And apparently manipulate them, too.

His eyebrows lifted.

Well,I joked softly, congratulations. You officially can’t hide anything from me anymore.

To my surprise Nathan smilednot cocky or teasing, but soft. Little moon,he murmured. I’ve always been an open book for you.
