Emma just smiled, completely unconcerned. Her bright, delicate red lips parted as she spoke softly, "Evan, everything I said last night was true. You've had enough, and I've had enough. I haven't been happy for a single day that I've been with you. I really don't want to live like this anymore. Let's get a divorce."
They had arrived at the entrance to the city courthouse.
She glanced at her watch. It was exactly 9:10 AM. The offices had just opened, and the lines for divorce filings weren't long yet.
Evan looked at Emma, his gaze sweeping over her eyebrows, her nose, her lips, and finally resting on her lively, beautiful eyes.
He put the car in reverse, wanting to leave, to end this ridiculous charade.
But as he began to back up, Emma opened the door and jumped out. The car wasn't moving fast, but it was still an incredibly dangerous move.
Evan slammed on the brakes and pulled the handbrake. "Are you insane?!"
He stared at Emma, bewildered and angry at her reckless behavior.
Emma stood her ground, looking at him calmly. "Yeah, if being insane gets me divorced from you right now, then I definitely want to be insane."
Evan parked the car and sat in the driver's seat, unwilling to get out for a long time.
His mind was a mess. He hadn't slept at all last night, and now, hearing Emma seriously demand a divorce, he still couldn't quite process it.
He thought it had to be a prank, that Emma was just playing some kind of joke on him.
But ten minutes later, as he stood outside the office in the courthouse, he saw Emma standing beside him with her head held high, showing no sign of backing down. She looked relaxed, as if she were waiting to pay for a satisfying shopping spree, not waiting in line to file for divorce. It was then that Evan finally realized she wasn't joking.
People were constantly walking by.
They were married at the foot of Eversnow Peak in Millford City. Neither of their parents attended; only company employees and business partners were there.
But Emma had felt so happy.
The sky was blue, the clouds were white, the mountains were high, and the world felt so vast and beautiful. And the man she loved most was right there beside her, taking heaven as his witness, swearing to God that he would love, respect, and cherish her for the rest of his life, that he would always be understanding and patient, that he would always be sincere and devoted...
Thinking back on it now, it all felt like a joke.
Emma's lips curved into a faint smile as she stared at the words "Divorce Filings" on the sign ahead.
"Emma, calm down. Come outside with me right now, and we can talk this through properly, okay?"
