Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 122

“The reason?”

Nathan found her question ridiculous.

“Are you not fully aware of your own physical condition? If you keep it... if you keep it, then either you die and it lives, or you both die. Those are the only two outcomes. Wouldn't you agree?”

Nathan’s tone was blunt, cold, and merciless, but Emma couldn't stop herself from asking, “Is there... no other possibility?”

“No.”

Hearing the final verdict, Emma’s first reaction was to nod calmly. Then she picked up her bag and started to walk out.

“Does he know you’re pregnant?”

Before she could leave the office, Nathan’s voice stopped her.

Emma paused and glanced back, her response flat. “He doesn’t need to know. This is my child.”

Her reason for wanting to keep the baby had nothing to do with Evan.

But Nathan didn't know the truth. To him, Emma’s words sounded like the false bravado of a woman in a failing marriage.

“He doesn’t need to? It’s your child, but isn’t it his, too?”

Nathan stood up then. He suddenly recalled the man he had seen embracing a young woman in the hallway the previous night. He knew it was none of his business, and he had no right to interfere, but as he watched Emma turn to leave again, seemingly ignoring him, he couldn't hold back any longer.

“Emma, he’s seeing someone else. Did you know that?”

“Emma, you need to think this through. Is it really worth having a baby for a man like that?”

Now Nathan was angry too. He looked at Emma, completely baffled. Before he knew who she was, he had assumed she was some rich businessman's mistress.

Nathan admitted to himself that he’d been prejudiced against Emma at first. Her flashy clothes and heavy makeup had always made him see her through a certain lens.

Though he privately looked down on her, he had slowly grown curious.

In the world Nathan grew up in, he rarely encountered women like Emma—a legitimate wife of a wealthy man who often dressed as ostentatiously as a nouveau riche's mistress.

He had thought at the time that it was no wonder Evan rarely brought her to social functions. But after seeing what he saw last night, Nathan felt an unexpected pang of pity for this poor woman who was facing a terminal illness while her husband was cheating on her.
