Now, Eric was truly confused. He couldn't make sense of it.
According to all the rumors, his sister had been so in love with his brother-in-law that she had run away from home with him, leaving Riverside Millford behind before she was even an adult.
But now that they were back, he was realizing that his sister and brother-in-law didn't seem as deeply in love as the stories claimed.
At the very least… he didn't think his sister loved his brother-in-law as much as everyone said.
Eric pushed his doubts aside, ultimately not daring to intervene.
Finally, it was Mrs. Hayes who couldn't take it anymore. Seeing Evan slam his head into the ground with increasing force, she worried something terrible might happen and yelled, "Alright! Stop it! Get up and talk!"
Hearing his mother-in-law's shout, Evan slowly stopped.
He tried to stand, but whether from kneeling for too long or from the force of his earlier actions, he staggered and nearly collapsed.
"Watch out!"
Fortunately, Eric was standing nearby and reacted quickly, reaching out to steady Evan.
"Are you okay, man?" Eric asked with a worried expression, unsure of what else to say. He glanced at his sister, hoping she would say something.
But when Emma noticed the situation, she simply looked away with a cold expression, choosing to ignore it as if she hadn't seen a thing.
Once they were away from the tense and silent atmosphere of the living room, Eric reverted to his usual playful, goofy self.
He carried the heavy suitcase with both hands, but his eyes kept darting over to Emma.
He would glance at her, and when she caught him, he would quickly look away, only to repeat the cycle a few seconds later.
Finally, Emma couldn't stand it anymore. She looked at him with a frown and asked, a little curious, "Why do you keep staring at me?"
"Hehe…"
Eric scratched his head foolishly and grinned. "You caught me, sis. I… I just wanted to look at you. Grandma used to say we look a lot alike, that if we met on the street, people would know we were brother and sister right away. So, I just wanted to see if we really look as similar as Grandma said."
