Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 159

At the mention of their grandmother, Emma's expression shifted slightly.

After a few seconds of silence, she asked in a hoarse, soft voice, "…Did Grandma used to talk about me a lot?"

Eric, carefree as ever, was already ahead of Emma with the suitcase, so he didn't notice his sister's change in demeanor. He just kept talking.

"Of course! You're my big sister, so Grandma definitely talked about you all the time! She didn't just say we looked alike, she said we even had the same habits! Every time Grandma looked at me, she'd say it was like she was seeing you."

As he spoke, they reached the second room on the second floor. Eric turned the knob and walked straight in.

"Sis, Dad put new sheets and a comforter on for you yesterday. Don't worry, it's totally clean!"

Emma followed Eric into what used to be her room. There was the small, pink wooden bed, the little white wardrobe, and the walls were covered with posters of celebrities who were famous at the time.

It seemed like nothing had changed.

"Does anyone stay in this room often?"

Emma looked at a corner where a pile of old magazines and weeklies she had read was stacked. Logically, they should have been covered in dust after so many years, but they were spotless.

"Nope! There are only a few of us in the house. Mom and Dad have kept this room for you all these years. Mom comes in to clean it every day, just like when you were still here."

Eric casually sat on the edge of the bed, still a bit out of breath from carrying the heavy suitcase up the stairs.

Just as Emma had expected, the news of her afternoon arrival had spread throughout the small town by evening.

Before long, Mr. Hayes's older and second older brothers arrived with their wives and children.

"Oh, my dear niece! You've gotten more and more beautiful!" one of the aunts said as she came in, warmly taking Emma's hand. She then turned to Mrs. Hayes and added, "Karen, you have to cook up a feast tonight! Let us enjoy your amazing cooking along with my niece!"

The second aunt followed close behind, smiling. "That's right, we haven't seen Emma in so many years. She's just gotten prettier and prettier! If I saw her on the street, I'm not sure I'd even recognize our Emma!"

Emma just managed a tight smile in response to her aunts' flattery. She didn't have a very good impression of them, and they certainly weren't close.

"Karen, you're so lucky! To have such a beautiful and capable daughter!" the second aunt said, her eyes drifting over to Evan, who was standing behind Emma.
