There is something poking into my back. As I lifted my hand to scratch my back, I suddenly got jerked awake as I about fell out of the tree. Oh yeah, stuck in this damn tree. I listened to the forest around me. I can hear their snoring, the birds chirping and squirrels scampering up and down the trees. The sun was just starting to rise as a faint red hue was overtaking the blackness of the dark.
I really wish I was back in my warm, soft bed with Wyatt. I wonder if he is looking for me. I could almost swear to it. Although I would love to just sit still, I need a plan and I have to rely on myself right now. Wishing and hoping won’t get me through this. I need a plan.
I listened to their snores. I could probably just leave. Climb down from the tree and take off. But they could wake up and come after me. I know they said there was a pack around here but I don’t even know where ‘here’ is. I could snap their necks. Something different about that though. I could very easily kill them, but that is almost murder. Killing someone in their sleep is cowardly. I could take them if they were awake, so I guess running off is the best option.
Testing my ankle, it felt good. Moving it to the left and the right and in circles and I didn’t have any pain. Raven is good! As I moved to stand, I knocked a few sticks loose and they fell to the ground. I froze in my place. Their snoring hitched but it resumed a minute later. Being extremely careful, I started my decent. One foot down and then the other. I was moving at snail speed with my hearing heightened listening for any sounds. I would go down a branch, then stop and listen.
Finally, I made it to where I could see the rogue. They looked like they were teenagers. Maybe 15 years old? One had what I think was supposed to be blondish hair but he was so dirty. He looked like he was maybe around 6 feet tall but still pretty skinny. The other had dark brown hair and about the same height. He might have a little more muscle on him. How did they get into this life? Didn’t they say they just wanted out of something?
I heard a cracking and the branch beneath me shook. I had about a second to process what that meant before it completely snapped off and I fell to the ground. I landed with a loud thud on my back, knocking the wind out of me. Fuck me! That fucking hurt! Fucking tree! My back was arched as I waited the pain out.
“Stop getting hurt!” Raven yelled at me.
“I didn’t do it on purpose!” I mouthed off back to her. Once I relaxed, I opened my eyes and both guys were standing up and looking right at me like they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. Double fucking shit!
“Any chance you want to just walk away from this?” I asked hopefully.
“Why would we do that? We could get rewarded!” One of the guys said, with blondish hair.
“You don’t have to do this. I will give you food and shelter. You do not have to live like a rogue, if you help me.” I said honestly.
I saw them look at each other in disbelief. Would it really be that easy to get out of here by just offering them to live?
“Why would you do that? You don’t know us!” The other guy said.
“There will always be a place in my kingdom for redemption,” I said, and I meant it.
“Your kingdom?” Blondie asked.
“Long story but cliff notes are, I am meant to be queen, I have a mate, your boss was trying to force me do something I don’t want to think at right now. I was kidnapped against my will and I just want to go home.”
They both just stared at me with a blank expression on their faces. “Lets try this a different way.” I felt my eyes glow green and I felt electricity run threw my veins. It ran off my anger, I have noticed. “Either you let me go, and/or come with me, or I will kill both of you and still go back to my mate. Which do you prefer?” I finished with probably too many dramatics but I was still learning to control this. I felt the electricity zap a few sticks and I quickly had to stomp them so a fire didn’t start.
“Um, can you really give us food and somewhere to sleep? Will you keep us safe?” Blondie sounded like a scared kid that needed a hug. I felt sorry for him.
“Yes, but I need information from you first.” I said as I let my eyes go back to normal and pulled the electricity back inside me. This time, I felt it pulsating through my body with my blood. It didn’t go away.
“Like what?” The other guy asked.
